NBD: Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass

Oh man.

I picked this up for $150 intended to my beater bass and practice bass, but it turns out...I love this thing. The Duncan-designed pickups are loud and they roar! The wood grain is amazing...it looks even better than the sunburst one on my FrankenP.

The neck is unfinished for the most part; there is no lacquer or coating on the front or back of the neck. The back has some light coating of satin, but it doesn't feel anything like satin. Very easy to move up and down this neck.

Much lighter than my other Precision. I could easily strap this on for hours without getting a shoulderache.

I am thinking of moving all my good hardware and electronics into this P.

I don't care if it says Squier. This bass is amazing and for $150...hard to beat.

I'd buy that for $150! Awesome looking bass!!

I recently adopted a Squier Affinity P, Baltic blue, swapped out the single ply white PG for a 3 ply red tort, stock ceramic pup (not bad) for a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound and threw on a set of La Bella tapewounds. All together I've got just about $200 in it, and it sounds AMAZING!

BOOM

I just changed pickups and bridge and stuff from my other P to this one. Sadly, the black pickguard's holes aren't wide enough for my primary electronic harness so I kept the tortoise one.

Interesting colour combo: amber-natural/tortoise.

I haz one of those. It's awsome.

I always wanted to try one of these and do what you did-add the tort guard for a homage to George Porter Jr. Enjoy!

I have no clue who that is but I wanted to keep the black stock pickguard on to pay homage to that early era of Fender Precisions, but the holes for the pots weren't wide enough for my main harness. I'll buy one in the future but I do like the amber/tort combo too!

Forgot to write in my post, that when I was changing the guard, I replaced all the pots with CTS 250K's. Bought a larger quantity than I needed for what I was doing a while back, thinking I'd have them around if/when I needed them. Sure enough...

Also changed the output jack to a Switchcraft I had extra, for the same reason.

Yeah my P Bass harness is a new one. I bought all the pots and cap (500 I think).

I heard that a bigger cap will result in bigger punch and low end? Not sure. That was my logic when I got the 500 and not the 250.

@MovingPitchers I believe, at least in the electric guitar world, 250K is for single coils while 500K is for humbuckers. If you run 500 with singles, they won't be as bright and can be muddy and not in a good way. So, I would think that a 500 for a bass single (even though the P is a split single) would maybe give is "bigger punch and bottom end".

Great, now I've got a reason to order a quantity of 500K pots... Of course, I do have a Fender blacktop (humbuckers) and I'm sure those pots are 500.
