Hurry up & plug it in! lol I want an audio review.
Well, had the chance to play it the whole jam yesterday, so here's my honest review (even though I'm aware that you pulled the trigger anyway lol)
Worth mentionning that I had to change my cab configuration before I could do any test, so that had an influence on the sound.
- First of all, I've checked the bass page on LAmusic.ca and they list the stock strings as Fender® USA NPS, (Gauges: .045 - .130) so they already come with a pretty decent B string. I've used them all jam long yesterday and they were actually pretty good, might keep them for a while.
- I straigthened the neck a bit and lowered the action. This bass plays and feel amazing for the price, no doubt here. The tuners and bridge are fine but I think they're the weakest part of the bass.
- I had to do some EQ tweaking but I had better result when not using the bass boost, my low-end amp has more than enough bass to cover that part so I'll probably get rid of it this weekend.
- The pickups are very responsive, I tried a bit to switch from one pickup to the other and I think, as much as I know, that the pickups could give either the J and the P sound.
- I didn't notice much of neck dive, I'm using a large leather strap so it might have helped. The weight didn't cause any trouble either.
Pretty much it. This weekend, I'll change the electronic to:
Master volume - Blend - Tone
I kept hitting the highest pot while struming so getting rid of it will also help my playing.
Cheers!
Edit: for the sake of it, here's the setup I've used for my rehearsal. Silly looking but give a decent result
