I've been thinking about buying one of these and putting EMG-MH (minihumbuckers) in as an upgrade; with the active EMGs then I could use tapewounds without any tapewound hum issues (due to the inherent lack of string ground you get with nylon tapewounds!) I know the MH configuration isn't visible on the EMG website but I wrote them last week and they confirmed that it's still possible to order them. I guess the real question is: are the Gretsch pups traditional mini-humbucker size, or a little different?
Thanks, I recall those threads but thought once the issue was made public they would fix the wiring issue. Huge downside for me since I know single coils aren't quiet in my music room.
Patrice answered better than I would have..... Nope. As far as I am aware the exact same pickups are still on them. If you pull them out you'll most likely find that both of them are stamped "Bridge".
I think they sound very good. Like others the pickups are usually the first to be swapped out. I’m keeping these!
My bass is quiet. I thought they were mini Humbuckers and was shocked to find they were single coil. Maybe Gretsch rewired them?
You are lucky. Mine is noisy so I bought an EHX Hum Debugger specifically for this reason. However, I like the tone!
