Probably so. But I also know my limitations—and while I have done some sanding/priming/painting in the past, I wouldn't claim to be especially good at it ... nor I am particularly patient.

My guitar teacher (yeah, I play that other instrument, too) is going to have a look at the bass on Tuesday, provide an overview of how he would do the job, and give me a quote. I'll be interested to see if he comes in lower than the $350-$400 figure I have seen lately.

Meanwhile, I've been fooling around with the bass that is the subject of this thread. It's really nice! I would have expected it to feel/sound similar to my 2001 SR 5H, but it's actually somewhat different. Maybe the stripped body resonates differently. Also, the neck feels a bit different, too, albeit still very nice. I'm probably going to end up selling this one. If you're lucky, you may snatch it up from the TB Classified in the not-so-distant future.

Once the refinishing job is complete, though, I wonder if I'll end up falling in love. Stranger things have happened.

BTW (and not for nuthin') ... this was my first year owning a StingRay and this one is my second and WOW. It's definitely a where-have-you-been-all-my-life feeling. What I love about the StingRay is that is has a somewhat familiar Fendery feel (not surprising as Music Man was a company Leo founded) but with added ooomph. That spot right on the neckward side of the pickup is just so perfect. What a cool bass! I love my Fenders, but my indiscretion with Music Man has certainly been fun ... and I probably won't go to Hell for it, either.
