41.5" scale length, so belongs as much in the URB forum as here. I put Corelli low tension 370s on at first to be on the safe side, but it's obvious this thing was constructed for heavy heavy strings - the original ones were brass or copper wound, don't know on what core. Anyway, I'm shopping for louder heavier brighter strings. Nothing wrong with the Corellis at all, just not very loud on this - this is more of an old draught horse of an instrument rather then some dainty thin carved thing. It's a brute.

Wow oh wow is that beautiful congrats and I really think URB's in that shape and size would sell

I find it easier to play than most URBs I've tried - but I may not have tried any good URBs. The scale is the same, the fingerboard being flat helps, even though the neck is ultra thick and chunky. And the lines do help, I'm not quite a "native" on that scale yet. :)

And actually, I got it at the same time as my Earthwood, both to play, and I do, but also to study - the luthier wannabe in me, I want to understand what makes them tick so someday I might built something with the best of both. :)

That Earthwood is one of the basses I have had my eye on for years and years they would make a great reissue and it wouldn't affect the price of the vintage ones one bit because they are so crazy desirable I would ask for a picture but my GAS needle will go up to a billion :) I bought one of these it's a great bass but I'm not playing it as much as I thought I would I wanted to start playing Beatles songs acoustically.

Nobody here plays gigs where you have to take your bass out in below zero weather
and into a warm, humid club, and back out again?

(I don't)
yup I do all the time but I figure this bass was outside in a truck all last night while it was -17* so im taking it slow
