NBD: Yamaha BB1025x - Caramel Brown

Yes ma'am - I wouldn't part with that one no matter what. Truth be told, I'm a little nervous to take it out too much. It's kinda irreplaceable if it got lost or damaged. It's been delegated to strictly home use & recording. But yes, I'll always have that one.
This one though - (besides the pristine condition being a little worrisome), I won't be hesitating at all to take it out to some gigs.
Stupendously nice bass but I am biased towards Yamaha with 10 in my collection and 40 years of playing Yamaha.
The 415 is a killer bass.I have a 415, cheapest of the BBs, and what you have is my absolute fantasy bass, and in the exact color, as well.

I wish the Metallic Red one still, but that's the new one Caramel one - my phone camera struggles with that color in lower indoor lighting.
How do these beauties compare sound wise ?
I'm stringing the new one up with D'addario Pro Steels at the moment (for a gig this weekend). I've been looking forward to comparing the 1025x to the 2025x myself - that should be happening here shortly.
The 425x (White) is in need of a new set of strings, hard to compare that one at the moment. In general, the 2025x (and I'm assuming the 1025x) sounds slightly warmer than the 425x. Probably due to the Alnico/Ceramic combo in them vs. the Ceramic/Ceramic combo in the 425.
I’ve always admired this custom mirror chrome finish Yamaha did for Mr. Santamaria.
Great to see this. I have a caramel 1025X here as well, retrofitted with a (slightly redundant but fun) EMG preamp and a series/parallel for the P-pu. I'm blown away by the tone, but still have to get used to the string spacing, as I'm coming from a TRB5.
How does the weight of your 3 basses compare? Mine is on the heavy side.

Congrats on the recent 1025x - it's great instrument. I imagine it sounds fantastic with the addition of the EMG preamp!
This generation of BB's can run on the heavy side, approaching 10lbs sometimes. I believe mine are around the 9 1/2lb area.
But the current line (BBP) is supposed to be a little more mindful of the weight.

I have metallic orange BB415 that's about 9.8#, I'm keeping my eye out for a BBP34.

They're rare - to my knowledge, I don't think they were ever mass produced. But I understand that Yamaha would occasionally make a maple board instrument for an endorsing artist. Which I think is the case here - the flight case that came with the bass sure had done some traveling. Customs sticker from Alaska, Japan, etc. are all over it. So yeah - probably previously owned by an endorsing artist.
