NYC, Inwood.
Just got a Squier Jaguar short scale. It was pretty well set up out of the box. The neck is satin finish, which I prefer, and is comfy for my ailing left hand. The pick guard has some flaws, but I don't really care. I lowered the E/A at the nut a bit, tightened the truss rod a little, set the intonation and will gig it tonight. The P pickup is OK, the J bridge pickup (which I would never use anyway) is useless. I may leave it as it or carve it up for a Novak Darkstar. Still a nice deal for $200.

There's a magnet upgrade for the J pickup....look here Magnet mod for Jag SS bridge pickup. :)
I'll never use the bridge pickup anyway, but thanks for the info. I'll probably do my usual thing of spending more on mods than I paid for the bass. The way I see it, it's a slab of wood with a stick screwed on, and if the neck feels good and the body is reasonably resonant, it can be improved and I still won't have spent a fortune on a fancy bass. Besides, it's fun, and my repair guy gets a kick out of it as well.
