For a cheap Bass with a not so great pickup I guess I would try something like GFS pickups to pimp it up for cheap or even a used one on the 'Bay

Very nice! Mine looked just like that, and was almost perfect out of the box too. Agree and the pick ups, but that is easily fixed/changed. After about three years though, mine now looks like this:

New pups, pick guard, strap locks, new strap, new knobs and pots, ashtray, and, most importantly, black pickguard screws.

Thanks for the review! I'm glad the quality seems to have been good. I won't be getting one - the jazz neck is half the point of a jazz bass for me - but I imagine some folks will be thrilled about that part.

Thanks. Pick guard was on Reverb, Troy Neagle Luthier, Black Pearl. Perfect fit, all holes lined up nicely. Just had to loosen the chrome cover a bit while I put it on, but really nice fit.

Edit to correct source of pickguard. Highly recommend this guy.
