My Washburn Taurus has managed to crack the headstock so I shall repair it when I get home in a couple of months. That left me with my Music Man Clone as my only bass. I'd tried a cheap Yamaha PJ at the only music store in town and liked the sound from it. The problem with that was that it only had four strings and I like fivers. The ONLY fiver in town that I could find was an Ibanez at a local hock shop, it was overpriced. Anyway, I wandered into the music store again today, and, lo and behold, they had a 5 string Yammie. After testing it out, it is now mine! Now all I've got to do is get used to it!

Nice find! Whenever I go a noodling in my local music store I’m always struck by how good the Yamahas feel. Haven’t bought one …. yet.

I've heard that repeatedly. How does it compare to the BB435?

235 has ceramic pickups, maple neck, urea nut, satin polyurethane finish.

435 has alnico pickups, maple/mahogany 5-piece neck, graphtech nut, gloss polyurethane finish.

Both are excellent quality instruments built to Yamaha's usual very high quality control standards.

If you go to the Yamaha website they actually have demos of each of their lineup playing. The Alnico compared to the Ceramic was not all that different. I've always held Yamaha in fairly high regard. In fact my first bass after not playing for about 20 years was a Yammie. It got written off in a flood about 14 years ago. I then bought the aforementioned Taurus and followed it up with a Chinese Music Man clone. I also own a Yamaha 12 string guitar.
