Just drove our (rented) boat past Saban's mansion on the lake here yesterday and I had to resist the urge to let Shenandoah off the boat to leave a "calling card" on his lawn. Good thing I hadn't read about this yesterday, ha ha.

No, it means I'm realistic. Spend some time on Google, looking at pools and op ed's that list the top current college football coaches. Try to find me a list where Saban isn't in the top 2 or 3. Most of them will have him at number 1. It's okay to not like a team or a coach, but if you can't see the reality in Saban's position, then it means you sound like a typical Auburn fan. And Saban doesn't have our wallet. Quite the contrary, we bring in more money per capita than any school in the country, and are very near the top in terms of revenue, thanks to Saban. Alabama has their wallet right where they put it. The percentage of what we pay Saban is commensurate with what he brings to the university. It's good business sense, but Auburn has never really been known for their business program.

No, I've got better things to do than try convince myself that Saban is not a turd and is a great coach. He's your god, you google him. And I'm not going to verbally spar over this with Alabama fans. You're not going to convince me and I'm not going to convince you so let's agree to disagree, ok? (this never works with Alabama fans, but I try).
I don't want to spar, but rather just having a hard time imagining how you see it otherwise? What he's done in his career, winning two NC's at two different schools, is quite remarkable. You have to intentionally have blinders on to not see it, which is typical for an Auburn fan towards Alabama. That's all I'm saying.

The heads start to roll in Boise. A quick glance over the article seems to indicate the entire athletic program is dirty, but I guess you need to do something special to get kids to move to Boise. I'll be glad to see the football program slip off the national radar.

Some people think being a good coach is about more than just winning - it's about things like honor, commitment, honesty, etc.
Which is all typical of the things folks say about him, but I really don't want to go down this road again, because all everyone brings up is how he left Miami, which somehow means he's a dirty, rotten liar. Never matter that coaches change jobs all the time. It's just a tiresome argument that's quite boring.

IF these allegations are true and IF Saban deliberately over signed recruits, then IMO that's the single worst thing I've ever heard a coach do. Ruin a kid's life to get a slightly better recruiting class? Unforgivable, IMO.
And that's not partisanship talking. If Harbaugh were still at Stanford and these kind of allegations came to light, showing that some kids had been tricked into signing with Stanford and then had their scholarships taken away, I'd be on the phone to the Alumni office today demanding an investigation. Orange Bowl Championship notwithstanding. NO game is worth messing up some kid's life over. I'd rather go back to the days of being 4-7 losers than win at the expense of some kid's future.
Think some people caught up in the excitement of football forget that these are kids we're talking about, and they do have lives. While many of these kids are undoubtedly spoiled arrogant jerks who could care less about college and academics, some of them are trying to take advantage of the hard-earned opportunity their football skills have given them. To take that away is despicable.
Sorry, as a former public school teacher who has watched kids struggle to get an opportunity to go to college, this just burns me up.
But at this point, I'm not ready to condemn Saban, as they are only allegations. If true however, then he is, IMO, the sorriest example of a coach I've ever seen, other than the occasional HS coach or such that's in the news for molesting kids.
The blue turf, the easy schedule, the "yay for us, we're underdogs" story are a couple reasons. They aren't a major conference caliber school to begin with, and now we see they have been cheating just to be as good as they were.

Forget changing coaching jobs. Talk about blinders, Saban's a jerk, loyal to none, but the blind fans of the Bama nation are trying to make him into the second coming of Bear Bryant. It didn't work with Ray Perkins, it didn't work with Mike Dubose, it didn't work with Mike Shula, it didn't work with Mike price (ya'll really shouldn't hire any more Mikes, that was getting ugly), and it is not going to work with Saban. At least the previous 4 weren't out and out jerks. He's going to ride Alabama hard and put it away wet. He's already thrown athletes under the bus if you believe the players he yanked scholarships from. And if you don't, it's mighty fishy that they broke team rules just in time to keep his butt out of over-recruting hot water.
When, not if, when he throws Alabama under the bus, the Bama nation will be so surprised and we'll be drowning in the rightouos indignation. Ya'll will tear down his statue, and I'll be the NCAA will be shining flashlights where the sun don't shine in T-town. Since I am not an Alabama fan, I'm glad that's where he picked to take his next dump, and dump he will.

You guys are hillarious. The scholarship yanking thing was done to death, simply because a couple of guys who couldn't play football anymore decided to make a story about it. That happened with Saban, well duh. Those kinds of things always follow the guy at the top. There have since been many articles and conversations in the sporting world about oversigning, and it's obvious that Saban's practice is MUCH less egregious than what many coaches do. In other words, everyone does it, and many folks do it much worse than what was talked about in that one NY Times article. Smoke and mirrors, but sense Saban is at the top (despite what Smokin Blinders thinks), and is considered the greatest recruiter in college football, he's the one that it made sense to make the article about.
So really, it is all a crock, and much to do about nothing. Go check out your own schools with regard to this. You'll be surprised to see the same thing.

"everybody does it" is no excuse for something this egregious. That is, IF it is true. I do agree with you that Saban is probably being singled out here due to his success, but it's still utterly despicable if it's true.
If it's as widespread as you say, then the NCAA really needs to put a stop to it TODAY.
