NCAA Football - 2011

+1. There's a huge reason why Fisher was so sought after before going to FSU. I wanted him at Bama before Saban came along. It's not surprising to me that he's doing so well at FSU. That's a HUGE school, with probably the most beautiful campus in the state of Florida. It's on the Gulf Coast with beautiful beaches and emerald waters, and they're starving for a championship down there. FSU has way too much going for it to have struggled the way they have for a short while now.
On the coast? You better check a map, Jason. It's an hour to the beach from Tallytown. That's like saying Gainesville's on the coast.;)

Not to mention they have the number 1 frat house in the country there, and are largely considered to be the best party school, have solid academics, etc. Way to much going on there for Fisher to not be able to assemble a top 25 team and challenge for that ACC title.
UF kicks FSU's ass in academics and has for a long time. I know I'm a homer, but any metric out there will back me up on this.

I'm not saying that FSU has better Academics than everyone, and I won't pretend they do, but they have pretty solid academics as far as a D1 school is concerned. I mean, they aren't on Tulane or Vandy's level, but still.

Compared to places where most people live, they consider it on the coast. It's the same in Mobile. Takes an hour to get to Dauphin Island, hour and a half to get to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores. Northerns always say they love Mobile because it's on the Coast. If you can wake up one day and decide you want to go to the beach for half a day, that's a cool thing for folks who usually have to hop on a plane or drive 10+ hours. But I do understand what you are saying.

UF isn't on Tulane or Vandy's level. I would put FSU a level below that.

Cool. Also, I grew up 15 minutes from the beach.:D

Any thoughts on the preseason poll?

I'm surprised the Gators are ranked, so I won't quibble with 23. I still think we're better than Georgia, though.:D

I'm about 45 minutes away right now in Daphne, but I can walk a mile from my house to Mobile Bay, and feed marshmallows to the 6-8 ft aligators while fishing whole mullet for sharks of the same size. It always freaks out northern visitors who come visit us to see this in person.

I haven't seen the reports he's bitching about, but I thought he sounded silly with all the whatevers. And who cares if they report injuries that supposedly didn't happen? That's to your team's advantage! That's why Belichick (who I can't stand) lists so many players on the injured list before every Patriots game.

I know! That's why I dig it! He get's peeved on purpose and then they all just get scared to ask him any more questions. It's great to watch, and gets him in the spotlight.

Jerel Worthy... Michigan State king of academics:

Nice tattoo of a Spartan crushing something wearing...a Missouri helmet?

Ummm... No winged helmet, but a Missouri style block M.

Take a closer look.

He still looks shifty and like he stole someones wallet. He did, it's the University of Alabama's wallet.

I hold out hope for him to be a decent coach one day and actually select a starting quarterback in fall camp. The never-ending preseason saga of "Alabama quarterback controversy" is tiresome.

I know. He's only widely considered to be the best coach in college football. Best investment UA ever made.

Widely, yes. By every single person with half a dozen red A flags hanging off their vehicle. And any coach that can't stop the hemmoraging for 24 points in a half? That's Division I vs. Division II type perfromance.

Best investment UA ever made indeed!

I've got a $20 that says that the Nick Saban era ends with the Bama nation hating him and the feelings mutual on Saban side. I gave it 5 years when he came. I may be off in the timeline, but his days are numbered, by his choice or by the brick throwing Bama fans choice. If he has a couple of bad seasons he'll get a taste of Bama-nation sportsmanship that Bill Currey (and his family) got. Or he'll get bored and want to do something else, like he did at Michican State, LSU, and Miami. Who knows, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, or Ohio State may come calling, or maybe another stab at the NFL. And the Bama nation will hate him for it. And you all will have a "tear down the Nick Saban statue" party. There will be no long-lived, Saban dynasty a-la Bear Bryant.

Cover my bet?

From Wikipedia:

In 2010, two Wall Street Journal reports suggested Alabama and Saban had engaged in dishonest and unethical behavior largely related to the controversial practice of oversigning. On September 24, the Journal reported that several Alabama players had been pressured into requesting medical scholarships (not counted against the athletic scholarship limit) despite being healthy enough to play and wanting to remain on the team.[33] A couple months later, on November 25, 2010, the Journal reported that several former Alabama players claim Saban and Alabama lied about their reasons for leaving the school.[34] Upon removing the players from the Alabama team in early August 2009, just days before the NCAA-mandated scholarship deadline, Saban told members of the press that the players had "violated some type of team rule or policy."[35] The players told the Wall Street Journal they committed no such violations and that Alabama and Saban had only claimed as much so as to protect the image of their program in the eyes of future recruits. Saban was also questioned, in April 2008, about how he manages to be under the scholarship limit each year despite the appearance of oversigning, to which he agitatedly responded, "It's none of your business. Aiight? And don't give me this stuff about the fans' need to know, because they don't need to know."

Yeah, the Wall Street Journal thinks he's the greatest too.
