NCAA Football - 2011

Nebraska officially joined the Big Ten today.
And an impressive conference it will be in time if Michigan can get things going again. Had Tressel not turned into a complete idiot it would be something else. Nebraska, OSU, Michigan, Penn State all in one conference. That's a power line-up right there with the right coaching. And the rest of the teams are not bad either, such as Michigan State, even though Bama drilled 'em 49-7 last year. :D

Maybe not as significant historically, but Wisconsin has played good football the last 15 years as well.

Wow, another Gator transfers. This time it is TE Michael McFarland. This one bothers me as UF now only has Jordan Reed and a true freshman at the position.

Yeah. UF is hemorrhaging talent, but I really don't think anyone should be alarmed. Muschamp's style will be different and the sooner all the dissenters are gone the better.

Deserters? I feel like Urban deserted them. If anything, they are victims of a system. They signed up to play for Urban, not Muschamp. I probably wouldn't be to keen on a new style, team culture, and playbook either if I was some of them.

I read that as dissenters, guys pissed off and not happy with the new program. It sucks to see so many guys bail, but it will be for the best. I don't want any whiners in the locker room crying about the new coach and his new plays. I sure don't want any of the trouble makers around. Be gone!

The guys who left went to another team with a new style, new system, new team culture, and new playbook. So they didn't keep anything consistent by leaving.

Well as should be obvious by my name, I got my season tickets in, and am excited for this season with the Hokies.

We don't have a great team as we lost a whole lot of players, but two local players (to me) will be starting this year. Logan Thomas and Zach McCray. I am particularly excited because I know these boys and they are great kids. Logan is an absolute class act, and it is great to see kids with great character getting to play. We have an easy schedule this year though, so it should be a good year for him to come into the program. We also had a good year recruiting, so next year and especially the year after looks good.

If anyone else is a Hokie fan, let me know, come join me tailgating, or before the basketball games any time for a beer and wings at PKs.

If any of you are on an opposing team throughout the season let me know if you want tickets, and if you come join our tailgate, enough food to feed an army and within 40 feet of the stadium. :)

Phil Steele has listed the Hokies as a surprise team this year. He's usually pretty good at picking such, so you're in good company.

I don't know, Meyer left for health reasons so that's not desserting to me. His football commentary has proven to be pretty lackluster though, so I figure he has to be itching to get back in the game. There's so much to dislike when a new head coach comes in that it's hard to blame anyone, but IMO they guys who stick it out show a lot of class. The ones who transfer out to other equal schools I have always felt to be sketchy. Transferring from Florida to Auburn for example is pretty lame, or vice versa. But players who leave somewhere like Florida for North Alabama obviously didn't have many options on the table, and they probably just want to get some playing time in somewhere at the least, knowing they weren't going to get any at Florida for one reason or another. Since it's his first year, Muschamp is wise to let these players go quickly and painlessly. Bleed off the naysayers and guys who are unhappy. The fans give you a lot of slack your first year, so losing the talent now is a good thing. Do the best you can, and start recruiting your guys.

Muschamp is very Sabanesque in his style. Hard defensive guy, old school work ethic, one helluva temper, prone to instant flare-ups and butt-chewings, and a no-nonsense approach to team discipline. I can see that style being hard to just accept when you didn't sign up for it. I remember watching players run off the field and chest bump Meyer after touchdowns in his 2nd year, practically knocking him back. It was obvious he didn't mind it too much, but it looked awkward to me. You'd never see someone chestbumping a coach like Saban or Muschamp. Not saying either one is right or wrong, but rather it's just a small way to illustrate how different the feel of the program can change when you have that type of personality shift at the top.
