Definitely this. I've owned several Ibanez basses with those inset jacks and they've all had some of the compound left over in there. I don't know why they can't seem to get it all out, but it's a common thing. I don't lose any sleep over it.

Definitely this. I've owned several Ibanez basses with those inset jacks and they've all had some of the compound left over in there. I don't know why they can't seem to get it all out, but it's a common thing. I don't lose any sleep over it.
What happens when you return one with a minor finish issue and the next one has a bad neck? If plays and sounds good, take the discount. A 10% discount is substantial when the margins are so close.
Keep it. Play it. Ding it up.

I would take the 10% discount myself. Playing bass now is more valuable to me. Setup and playability issues would be more important to me.

When the low to mid end Soundgear basses were made in Korea there were very few issues. Now that they’re made in Indonesia it’s a totally different story. Even on their basses priced North of $1k that are made in Indonesia. My guess is it happens in production quite frequently and because of price point and 99% of people not micro inspecting a $350.00 bass, they don’t put it back through the line to correct. Especially knowing that after a few hours of play the edge of the recessed input jack will do that on its own from the cable. Realize too that on something that minuscule, if regularly put back through the line to fix the edge of the recessed input jack you would see the price point climb to at least $500.00 or more because less are now being produced and more time is being given to do a better finish job on them. And unfortunately, on hard edges, that’s not easy to do.
It's a cheap bass. It's a learning bass. It's a practice bass. The bass you received is perfect for what you requested. Nobody is ever going to get close enough to see the flaw. If it plays & sounds good, enjoy it. It's safe to say that any bass with a jack like this is going to get road worn quickly in this area.
That doesn't automatically mean that an Indonesian made bass is going to be of lesser quality or have QC issues. It's up to the manufacturer to provide what standards will and will not pass. Nobody to ding but Ibanez on that one. This is a relatively minor issue though in the scheme of things.
Rubbish. I've owned a lot of MIK SG basses and they're no better than the 8 or so MII SG and BTB I currently own in terms of QC. My BTB846 is one of the finest finished and playing out of the box instruments I've ever owned and my collection has included many fine boutiques including Alembic Series.
