Need a new "used" car

Haven't found even one for sale. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.......
I was browsing some of the less-than-classic gigantic Thunderbirds from the late sixties to mid-seventies. Even the sedan looked cool. An engine option was called the 429 Thunderjet. Probably gets 6 mpg.
One thing that makes me happy is that I see a lot of Fits that are older than mine still out on the road and looking good. I plan to drive mine as long as I can, then i will get another one. YMMV

the thunderbird i posted a 77 is for sale its a 351W doesn't seem to do to bad on fuel economy.
now back in 69 a company i worked for received a fully optioned Tbird from FoMoCo with a 429 or 460 we turbocharged for them as a possible option turned 10.2 in the quarter mile dont remember anything a fuel economy but should have done better than a non turbo version.

Maybe where you're located but that's not true for every city or state. I've been to many auctions that were open to average citizens with cash in their pockets.

From what I have seen, there are two kinds of auctions. One is for dealers (or people who know dealers) - there are others open to the general public.
Several years ago this idea of dealer auto auctions that the public could attend got really popular around these parts.
I'm no expert in this field, but I know a couple guys who are. They laughed when I asked them about these auctions being the real deal like the ones they go to.
Seems like marketing hype, up around here at least, for these dealer auctions. In fact, the one guy I talked to said it was actually a play on words. It is a dealer auction, but not in the sense that was insinuated. More so that dealers were auctioning off their cars to the public.

Don't expect to get a screaming deal at an open to the public auction. More that likely you'll wind up paying close to retail price..... dealers are there to make money.

If you want cheap and utilitarian, a full sized van is the way to go. Find an ex-government window van, and you are all set. Nobody with any shame will be caught in a van. If you have a van, you will hear all the jokes about "free candy" signs on the side. I have a 2002 Chevy Express that's been reliable as a stone since I got it six years ago. It had 92K miles on it, all courtesy of the state DOT. It had lost a few arguments with construction equipment and big rocks or something, but all the battle damage was more or less repaired. Plus it was mechanically maintained by the book. It gets lousy fuel economy and doesn't fit in all parking garages, but it hauls a decent sized PA, a drum kit, the upright bass, an Acoustic 360/361 stack, four guitars, three guitar amps and four band members. No fuss, no muss.
Plus, I have a "free champagne" sign on the van. It works for a different demographic, the one I prefer.

So it's been a LONG road but I finally found exactly what I'm looking for.
2017 Hyandai Accent Hatchback, 35k (I'm pretty sure it's a rental) with a transferable warranty for about 10k.
It will be here tomorrow and I finally give my mom's car back (it's a Lexus, and it's TOO BIG, hard to park)
I'm excited! I held for what I wanted and my credit score is just south of 800 for a super low interest rate!!!!!!!!!
