Need a new watch

I think you would like the link that I posted earlier in the thread. Very awesome watches, he even makes a line with a vintage Hamilton movement in it.

Very beautiful and reasonably priced! I've been out of the watch hunting business for a while, I remember a company called ORIS had a fabulous line of reasonable jeweled watches around 15 years ago. Hmm, I can't afford to start down this road, I'm more into basses now :bassist:

I buy the cheap $15 watches at WallyWorld, then I swap out the cheap bracelet for a high-quality Speidel bracelet. I've had my present watch for two years now, but if it should crap out I can say I got my money's worth out of it! I don't care about the watch, but that Speidel flexible bracelet is the best I've ever had. It'll be on every watch I own from now until my dirt nap!

Stauer offers many very beautiful watches at very affordable prices. I've read several third-party reviews supporting their quality. I feel pretty comfortable saying that my next watch will be a Stauer.

iJazz - Haven't worn a watch in years, but I'm thinking about it.

There is someone here in TBOT, can't remember who, that has a relative who makes watches. Maybe you can score one from him. I would really, really love to have a watch made for me. I'm not at a point in my life where I wear a watch, but perhaps in the future I'll want one.

Every time one of these threads pops up, I get major gas for a watch. I am wearing one of his older models with an automatic movement in it, he only ever made two of them because they are a 34mm case and they weren't selling. I have been trying to talk him into making me one of the vintage ones, but as a skeleton watch. Major watch GAS.

Luminox Tritium dial.

The line forms behind that. If you disagree, you are wrong.:D

+1 on the Luminox. They're tough as nails and lightweight. You'll come to appreciate the luminous hands and numbers more than you can imagine.

The only possible downside is that most of the Luminox watches don't look "expensive." For me, this is a plus, as I can wear it while traveling and I don't have to worry about people wanting to rob me for my fancy watch and (presumably) fat wallet.

If you want something flashier or dressier, that's still reliable, check out Seiko.

I love watches! Instead of new, why not get something vintage? Lot's of self-winders and manual winders out there. Or for something completely off the wall, do a search for Bulova Accutron 214 or 218. The worlds first tuning fork watch, and the precursor to the cheap quartz movement.

The engineers at Bulova knew that a tuning fork oscillates at a given frequency when passing current through it, so the challenge was to convert that frequency into seconds.

Japan came along in the 70's, took the same theory knowing that cheap and plentiful quartz crystal oscillated at a given frequency with current passed through it, and cranked out cheap more accurate movements by the millions. Thus killing the Accutron, and darn near the "jeweled" watchmaking business.

Watchmaking is enjoying a revival, but not on the working bass player's budget for the most part.

But owning a watch that was ticking during the Eisenhower or Kennedy administration gives me a secret smile.....

Brilliant!

here's some
