Email Tom Clement. Let him know you need a light well balanced bass. He made me a 5 string fretless that was under 8 lbs. Dude knows how to make a great playing, sounding and looking bass for sure. And hew knows how to keep them light.

If it's a Fender-type that you would prefer, a P-bass Lyte is the lightest Fender I've played: just over 7 lbs.
Either an Icon or a P-lyte can be found (Fender, used) in the 300 -400 range.

hofner, or something hollowbody. The hofnor beatle bass wieghs like 6 pounds, kind of feel like a toy.
+1. This is a great place to start.There's also those straps always advertised in the back of the guitar mags, double strap that goes across both shoulders. Then there's the Dare strap... lots of stuff about playing posture and what not if you google it.
