Need Cab for Traynor YBA3

Couple things, the YBA3 that I had was 135 watts sinewave with negligible distortion.
Amp techs that I took mine to all would remark that it runs at very high voltages. It was designed for 6CA7 EL34 tubes. El34s can handle a lot more watts than you think. I had a YBA1a that gave 90 watts from a piar of EL34.
The reason I gave up my YBA amps for a mesa was that I kept burning out tubes in about a 6-8 months. Which I couldn't afford at the time. Of course I used to play in louder than average bands though, so YMMV.

Some time ago, I updated one of my YBA-3 amps ( NON-Master ), what I did was recapped the amp, I changed the 2 soldered cans to 50/50 ......40/40 are just impossible to find, I also went and did the coupling cap mod, as described in the Velvet Black site, I loaded the amp with the JJ 6CA7 power tubes, I kept the old Sylvania 7025 preamp tubes, as they were sill good ....and I've been very happy with the sound .... I regularly use a Berg. NV610 and it is a good old school sounding rig ...... as a side note, the YBA-3 runs some pretty high plate voltages, do make sure the cooling fan is running OK

Mine is stock and I play pretty loud. I use an 8 ohm 2x15 fender pro cab. Sounds amazing, I have never had a better amp and I have tried a ton. I don't want to start a fight, but watts is a very very relative thing. For instance, the Traynor has more volume than a GB Shuttle 6.0 which is supposed to be 300 watts with my 8 ohm cab. The Traynor killed the shuttle in sound and volume. I've knocked stuff off of shelves in my drummers house upstairs much to his wife's delight. Find a decent 2x15 and let here rip. I doubt you will want to mod it once you hear it.
The best amp ever made IMHO.

I have not studied all these tube details. I like 6V6s in my guitar amps and have a Vicky with 5881s (which I think I heard were milspec 6L6s.

The original 7027 was virtually the same as the 6L6GC but required a bit less to drive the grid.

When it comes to tube you have to be specific. The 5881 is a mil spec 6L6GB and has less plate dissipation than the GC variant. You can find the same tube sporting its commercial number 6L6WGB.

Maybe I need an old Traynor 8x10 and 2 2x15s. Make a huge matching stack. I went looking at EVs new just in case I need to reload a cab. Cheaper than buying a bunch of 10s.

I would like to have some 6Ca7s just for kicks TD.

Maybe I should go do tube research to be knowledgeable enough to support such a fantasy.

I hope my head has the schmatic still inside. Missing back cover so no serial number.

Its ugly too but I can work on it and get back close to right. Or maybe leave it ugly for effect.

I missed a logo last Thursday. Got 5 out of 6 knobs on the way. Anybody know where to get Traynor amp handles ? The one on my YBA1 look like my Acoustic 105 cabinet (sort of) as far as slide on cover over the screw bracket

Good luck, just a note...these amps sound really really good with guitar as well. Every now and then at band practice, I plug in a guitar and with the master volume, it gets really nasty.

I have used a Gallien Krueger 410RBH with my YBA3 (with master) for years. Loud as s#!t and can go from smooth funk to rock awesomeness. Highly recommended for live and studio.

Long story short: my experience with the Traynor through a 4x10 has been very positive.

A friend of mine has a YBA-3 with a matching 215 cab. I have had the pleasure of playing through it several times in the last couple of months. The 215 sounds good at low volumes, but his has one or possibly both cones blown, so any volume and it sounds bad. So, I have taken my Aguilar GS410 over to run it through, and then, more recently, my Bergantino NV610.

My friend that owns the Traynor and the drummer we've been playing with and I all agree that the YBA-3 sounds really GREAT through the Berg 610!

I would like to run into a Berg cab. But from the budget perpective I have going, my first real bass cab will be some sort of economy deal - one that doesn;t need lots of reconing. Be careful grasshopper.

I do plan to at least try it on guitar. I expect it to be insanely loud. Louder than I can take these days. I can;t believe I thought I "needed" a Super Twin in 1977

Well, my flamed baby arrived today. Loaded with Sovtek 6L6WXTs. Seemed odd to me.
Claim by the seller was "it worked" and is missing handles and feet and front and back plate.

Pretty rough cabinet wise but I can get that back in shape.

Brought it up to volume slowly. Sounded pretty good, tone stack is very flexible. Seems very low in volume. Not any louder (or as loud) as by YBA1 w/2 EL34s.

Inside I see the front standby/operate switch is not oriig.. An unlanded red wire off aa power tube socket.

My conclusion is - now more juice until I take it to Andrews Amp lab. I was hoping it could sort of jam up the basement for a week or two. But with the under power condition and the floating wire.

The pot codes are from 68. SO If it was an early 7027 amp, could 6L6s be OK ? The seller represented the amp fairly. The pre shipment phone call indicated little detail knowledge of tube amps. So I know I was rolling the dice. Still think I got a sound chassis that can be brought back to life.

I just can't boogie this week...............

Oh yeah. TO add:

I can;t imagine this amp has been biased. Between that and the unlanded red wire, there must be multiple reasons for the low output.

I knew the fan wasn't orig but Jeff says we can get the right model for that.
