All these suggestions are great, especially the FC installation tips from el_mariachi, the sage advice from Ed, everything Phil and T-Bal said (esp. the high pass filter), and the list of items from greitzer.
When you've got all those in the bag, thought I'd also mention that some people have success curbing feedback by using phase reversal. I think your Fishman's got it. I've never liked what it does to my sound, but others swear by it. Some say the FC especially works better that way.
It does seem odd that you get "massive feedback" 2 or 3 feet from your amp with the FC. I thought it was one of the more feedback resistant p/u choices out there today. Somethin' ain't right.
Anyone else you know have an upright w/ a p/u they could plug in to your rig? Or can you plug your bass into another amp? It's something in the rig / signal chain after your bass, or the bass itself and the p/u or p/u installation. It'd be nice to know which.
