need more than 8x10 - what next?

Bill - Thanks for the link! I some questions for you. It sounds like stacking the subs would meet the <2.8' criterion but would lose some boundary effect from the top one not being on the floor. In places where there isn't enough floorspace for a side-by-side arrangement would stacking be preferable to placing on the floor on either side of the stage?

Secondly, your diagrams refer to the subs as "horns". Do the recommendations apply to vented boxes as well?

And finally, yes, I agree we need some education. While the feedback problem may be a physical problem with the mic itself, there are many things we do not know. Any recommendations for a manual?

Bill - I forgot to answer your question about the power amps. The guitarist bought the first power amp when he bought the first sub. He thought one sub would be enough and so bought a 900 watt amp (bridged to 4 ohms). I happened to have a similar sized amp (1100 watts bridged to 4 ohms) from my previous bass rig. Again, it's just about right for one sub. I'm afraid that running both subs off of one amp would be underpowering them. It would be about 450 watts per sub. These subs are rated at 600 watts so maybe it's something to try. It's unconventional I know but is there any reason why using a preamp between the crossover and the power amp is a bad thing?

The stack would couple and all the elements within it would be in half-space.

Yes, the same physics apply to all sources.

The may be rated 600 watts but the drivers will fart out with more than 300 watts anyway. 450 per cab is plenty. Proper placement can give you the equivalent of as much as 16 times the input power, improper placement can rob you by an even larger margin.

you can't hear yourself in a 3 piece with 8x10s???? sounds odd. i would try and position yourself differently or bring the whole band down. i can't imagine maxing out your set up in the typical small to medium sized music club....are people running for the doors with their ears covered???

maybe some plexi glass on your side of the drummer?

We seem loud to me but rarely have we been asked to turn down. Quite the opposite usually with people coming up to tell us to turn up the guitar or vocals. My guitarist sometimes asks me to turn up.

The plexiglass idea would suit me but the drummer wouldn't be happy so I wear an earplug in the ear next to him.
