Need tone/amp advice!

Trying to nail this tone:



I'm working on a P-bass w/pick, but with a Sansamp Bass Driver through my Aggie just don't do it... I get the 60's fuzz deal.

Please help, I'm to the point where I'm going to start losing sleep... then lots of money chasing it.

Not sure on the amp, but sounds like your standard P-Bass, roundwound strings hit with a pick, SVT combination, IMO. I would try the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal over the bass driver pedal for that sound.

If you can't get a decent rock sound from a Fender/SVT combo, you can't get a decent tone, period!

100% correct. Roundwound strings are key here. The Bass Driver is not always the best choice. It's just a little bit of overdrive and the VT Bass is awesome for that. The VT is better than the Bass Driver because it does not hurt your midrange content. The first thing you need to do is achieve the simple P Bass edgy pick tone with your playing technique and minimal amp tweaking. From that point, you can add the VT bass and get nearly the same exact tone as referenced in the recording.

The Aguilar Tone Hammer would get nearly the same tone and the Aguilar AGRO would be better for heavier distortion.

I prefer the VT too but before you give up on your current gear make sure you at least try connecting your sansamp into your aggie's effects return jack. This'll just use its poweramp and not let its preamp flavor your sansamp settings.
