I know it's been mentioned here, but I don't think there has been a specific thread started up about it. Got the record today, listened once, loved, listened twice, loved, listened the third time, loved!! Really nice work!! The thing that hit me the most is that I was singing along to songs that I didn't really even know yet. Always a GREAT sign!! Ha ha.

And we're going to have to have an in depth discussion about the bass on the record... Well, no. Not really. The answer to everything is the end result of a cool bass player being produced by another cool bass player. And maybe coffee. (Lots of coffee?) And a combined collection of fun toys. Well, and good songs. Good luck playing funky dancy bass if the songs aren't good!!

Hey Dan, thanks for the kind words about the record. It was great working with Justin, as I've been a long time fan of his work and knew he'd bring rad ideas to the table. Feel free to shoot over any questions about gear or techniques with the new record. I love talking about that stuff.

Hey-oh!! I did not realize that you were a member of the forum, but I suppose that doesn’t surprise me. There are a ton of really great musicians that are on here frequently.

Truly loving the record, men. I’ve been doing a lot of driving this week and listened to it a squillian times. Great job on bass parts and sounds.

Like talking about gear, eh? Well, get started then!! He he he. I saw the Ellen clip. Are those those new Fender Bassmans? And you might have a bigger pedal board than the guitar player. I approve of this.

That’s what I’ve heard. I’ve been really interested in trying them out, but I haven’t found a shop locally that has them around Pittsburgh yet. And did you use the TV in the studio with Justin? A 15" or 12” combo is definitely on my list of things to grab this year after hearing great things about them here and from Tony Lucido in Nashville. If multiple respectable working studio bass players say “yeah, I’ve been leaving the B15 at home and carrying the TV” you listen!!

Any new/exciting pedals discovered and used on the new material? I really enjoyed the chorus on the bass in Trust. The tone is a nice kind of tribute to um… Maybe Journey and Joy Division and some other great 80s bass sounds, but it sounds very fresh to me too. Perfect in the song. All the other parts and tones sit so nicely in the songs too. That skill is one of the main things that gets me inspired by Justin’s long list of credits, and I’m sure he shared his opinions and toys at times, but you did a really great job!! Super deliciousness!!

Hey, Branden!

I loved the record (actually your first record is also awesome)! I've noticed in the recent live videos that you have quite an extensive pedalboard. Could you share what pedals are on your pedalboard?

Also, you have been using Lakland basses, but now I see you more with Fenders. Any particular reasons for the change?

No particular reason for using one over the other. I had never given new Fenders much time until Mike Dirnt gave me one of his. The sound of that particular bass is up there with my vintage 1961 P-bass, IMO. Overall there isn't enough room to bring all the basses I'd like on the road, so it comes down to my flavor of the month. I'm kinda that way ;) I wish I had one workhorse and didn't care otherwise. But now with various tunings during our concerts, I have at least 3 different basses. That new Lakland is seeing some action too.

As for the pedalboard, maybe I should post a picture with some notes. Lots of those I got for the new album we did with JMJ. We used them on the record at some point, so I added them to my live sound. Not everything we used in the studio translated to a live setting, but that's the nature of it all sometimes.

Thanks for the reply! I saw a few pictures of you with Mike Dirnt's bass, do you like it? How heavy is it?

Also, I suppose it is of little significance, but I sure wish I hadn't been sleeping on the fact that you guys are in Columbus tonight!! If I realized earlier I would have definitely come out. I go to see shows at that place all the time with my Sister.
