Never ask questions...

It's different. If one is to ruin his bass, it would be better to suggest why it would be so. If somebody wants to spraypaint their 1958 P bass, don't ask why, say "don't do that' or something.

There's where you seem to be missing the point....or changing yours. If someone says "I want to change the bridge on my bass" (going back to your first example), we may ask him why he wants to do that. In some cases, it may be broken. In others, he may think that a new bridge will magically give him hours of sustain. But, until we understand WHY he wants to do it, we can't give him meaningful advice.

Do you want help with your cheap bridge or dontcha ??

Why is one of the fundamental questions in life that teaches people to think, and act in a positive way, and not just feel and react with dubious results.

Pete's a straw man. Leave Pete out of this.
Whoa, hold the phone. Isn't Ray Bolger the straw man?

Why would you answer a question with a question?

What's wrong with a question?

For Pete's sake.

Pete is taking aspirin for his ache, thanks very much.

ANDDD an actual answer to the OP. I'm stunned.
