Well IMHO that is stupid. Take this as an example, this guy walks into Sam Ash as I am there to buy a bass and wants to buy a $200 bass (because he doesn't want to spend a lot of money) BUT he also wants to change the pick-ups and between that, labor, and knowing they will have to dremel it to fit the pickups he is looking at $400 on-top of the $200. So the sales guy rightly says, dude, why not buy a $600 or more bass that has what you want instead of buying something that is cheap and trying to make it better. I agree with the sales guy.
When one of my clients are about to do something stupid I do advise and question it in way to make them aware that I am aware of how stupid this is. If they choose to move forward with it I will do so but make sure it's documented they wanted to do the stupid thing. This holds true no matter what the topic is.
I had a friend who would proclaim loudly & proudly that he hated puns--but that was one of his favorite jokes.
Hey folks. I just inherited my grand dad's old bass. I think it says Flender on the little thingy with the four metal things on it but it's real old and without my glasses the name is hard to read. What i can see is the ugly paint job. it looks like a first grader tried to paint it and couldn't decide which color and kept changing colors as they got closer to the edge. There aren't any scratches or anything wrong with the paint but i just hate the colors so i'm planning on using some left over burgandy rustoleum from where i painted the shutters to repaint it. I'm not sure i've got enough to do the whole job so i'm probably going to mix my shutter paint with some pink latex wall paint i've had since i painted the baby's room 15 years ago to make sure i don't run out.
What i really need to know is will i be able to do the whole job with a two inch brush, or should i also get a quarter inch brush to get under those long wires and inside those shiny metal things at one end of the wires and over that black humpy looking thing? I realize a lot of it is not painted right now but i'm trying to avoid future rust problems so i'm thinking a good coat of paint on everything would be just the ticket and i don't want to do a sloppy job.
I'm also thinking about painting the box it was in to match. It's an ugly old thing covered in yellow and brown colored cloth like something my granny might use to make spare roll covers for the bathroom so i'm thinking since i'm going to be angling for a serious musician to buy this thing, a nice clean matching box would up the value a bit. Should i also pain the inside of the box? It's a gaudy orange faux fur and i'm sure it will clash with the new color on the guitar.
Last of all, if i don't like it after i'm done painting it, what's the best way to get the new paint off without disturbing the old paint. Of course it's ugly, but not ugly enough to actually buy any paint for it. If i didn't have all this extra paint laying around I'd probably just throw the whole thing out, but hopefully with a fresh coat of paint i can get a few bucks out of it at the next community yard sale.

Nah, finding out why someone wants to change a bridge isn't a big deal. The real annoyance comes when someone asks if buying an old blueline SVT is worth it or if they should just pick a new SVT-CL and 287 people come on ignoring the question or dismissing it to only tell the OP that he or she should just get a 5 lb. class D amp. Bonus annoyance points if they say, "The audience can't tell the difference."
