I think I got reminded of some of the thread starters here on TB the other day.
A note on our commeon entrance front door (live in apartment/flat) said "Interested in swapping a 3 room for a 2 room in the same house. Please call me" . And then we watched, and laughed. Two days after the note, he had went down and provided the telephone number in pencil writing! Nice printout from computer and all that. Someone must've told him.

Oop! Like we all should know who it is and his phone number. Reminds me a lot about the "trouble" threads on here. They always forgot the key important thing of it all, and takes for granted that we should know automatically about things. Such things are usually called "Tacit Knowledge" and is a strange psychological thing, connected to epigenetics and memes and whatnot. No wonder subsequent posts are all over the place.

As I get older, I embrace a saying my Grandfather had: Always do and say, the kindest thing in the kindest way. In other words, we should respect someones views, thoughts or questions whether we agree with them or not.

However, as they've concluded in the Dunning-Kruger Syndrome, it all boils down to the up-bringing and raising of the kids, and millenials, trigger warnings, explicit lyrics that a great deal (a majority) of these DK Syndrome people is they're brought up with the stance "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it", which means people will never learn what they are doing wrong.

It's just as if it would be that simple "Always do and say, the kindest thing in the kindest way". Now, I've tried that, many times, but if that doesn't help then? Then what?

You make a fair point. There are always going to be people who just won't get it or those who are unencumbered by facts and those who believe they are the only right ones or the smartest person in the room. I guess as I get older, I reach a point where I will try to have a cordial discussion but with some people that just will not work so I just stop wasting time with them. I should also clarify that my Grandfather was an old school NYPD Cop so I am sure not everything he said or did was perceived as "kind" by everyone!

See there, there you go, and the most dropped line any cop will make, contradicts that of your grandfathers old adage, they'll usually go "You have the right to remain silent, anything you say may be used against you!" So even if you say something as nice as possible, it will be interpreted by someone else as "not nice", and you'll be not aware of this until it's too late. It's a lot like the "heresy" and blasphemy thing they have in certain countries. You can't ridicule any religion in - say - India. But you don't know you had done anything like that until it's way too late, and you get sentenced for it. Or killed. No matter how nice you thought you were.

Which can probably not be said in a nicer way, can it? An euphemism/synonym for "just STFU!!"


BTW: This forum would be quite useless, if we all adhered to that thing wouldn't it?
