I wonder if the haters will finally stop ahem...complaining now?

I am a long time Rickenbacker player … I hove owned more than 20 … lots of old vintage ones … I love the look and I love the tone, I have hardware that makes playing the bass more difficult …

Rickenbacker has doubled down on a bad design … Very disappointing indeed

This is the only kind of Rickenbacker I will ever purchase in the future

no pickup cover and no mechanical mute and no TEETH!!!

Call it weird, strange or unique, Rickenbacker thing has always been making instruments outside the box and have been stubborn to get on the band wagon of what the masses say is correct with regards to design. Cudo's to them for not making cookie cutter instruments.

They are cookie cutter … they have been producing the same basic instrument since the 1960s … they strengthened the neck and they made a few improvements but it is still a cookie cutter image from the 1960s 4001 bass

ya it is pretty … but the darn things are harder to play than other basses

Nice, but yeah... Hipshot is still a "better" choice. Though, I still have my issues with the Hipshots, too... not enough downward pressure on the saddles. When I dig in on the G string, the friggin saddle moves around!

you literally have to drill about 14 new holes and get them all in the right place to install that thing and then you still can't palm mute your bass … arrgghh … what were they thinking?

The statement regarding the number of new holes that must be drilled is a complete fabrication. shame.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I like the old bridge too much to pay 190 for that new one.

They addressed the single biggest complaint, while still maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the original bridge. I call that a win.

Indeed! 30 (yikes!) years ago I had Jim Mouradian replace my Rick 4000 bridge after having engineers complain about the intonation (which couldn't be gotten perfect), and it wasn't the first time he'd done that replacement. But better late than never.

I think from now on all Rics will have these installed stock. I could be wrong, guess we will have to see what Mr. Hall has to say at the NAMM show. IMO the 4004 corrected all of the issues I had with my 4003's, better bridge, got rid of the totally unnecessary bridge pickup housing, new pickups. Sucks they're so expensive and hard to come by.

I will still take the Hipshot. Fender and Musicman ditched the foam mutes ages ago. I've yet to meet a Rick player who actually uses it. No clue why they included it on the new bridge. And as other mentioned, palm muting is the way to go which you cannot do even on the redesigned bridge...but you can on the Hipshot.

Totally agree. The inability to palm mute on the Ric bridges is the only thing I dislike about the 4003.

4004 do look really nice. The neck pickup is just too close to the neck. I'd had to learn to slap all over again in some new way. On the other hand, I actually like the bridge pup cover. Perfect place to lean my palm. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
