I use a strap locks, and a fancy dual shoulder strap, both help, but if there were ultralights for my ric, I would buy em immediately.

Yes, I had to remove a bit of wood, but I have installed Ultralites on a couple of Rick - July '73 4001, and a '04 4004Cii. Never owned a bass I wouldn't drill holes in.

Because Rics have more quirks than just the bridge.

Ya pretty much everything about a Rickenbacker is quirky

The standard 3/8" post ones. HB6.

The ones on the 4005WB were the 1/2" post version.

I had a set of the large cloverleaf keys that I never got around to putting on the 4005WB (they keys are easily interchanged on Ultralites. I think I sold that set with both the cloverleaf and Y keys, together).

IMO, the small cloverleaf keys just wouldn't look right on a Rick.

Anything with a Fender length Tuner Key shaft looks ridiculous on a Ric. The HB-5's have the same shorter tuner ear shaft as the Ric labeled Schaller's. What's the weigh difference between the Schaller's and the HB-5's? Worth even doing? I actually really like the Ric label Schaller, very nice tuners.

You know, it balanced fine before I changed them, still fine after. I changed them as I was swapping the gold hardware for chrome, and I like the Hipshots.

How does the string spacing move side to side, I have an aftermarket bridge for an EB-3 with separate Allen screws to move it. Being able to move the string spacing is a great idea.

The Hip Shot has rollers for the string spacing also.

Well they're round - cylindrical with a groove actually - but they don't really roll. The third (stand alone) set screw hold them in position laterally and therefore, prevent them from rolling.

you literally have to drill about 14 new holes and get them all in the right place to install that thing and then you still can't palm mute your bass … arrgghh … what were they thinking?

I seriously think if I still played a 4 string Rickenbacker I would change the bridge like Geddy and just play it …

Installed the bridge today- took about half hour total. I did take one short cut from the instructions- I desoldered at the bridge instead of removing pick guard and de soldering internally. They even provide the drill bit in the kit!

Out of curiosity, did you use a drill press or "wing it" by hand (handheld drill)?

*edit* Oh, one other question. You de-soldered from the mute support plate. Did you re-solder at the same place.
