A few kinks worked out and this thing will rock. Definitely getting one and I like the idea of the IC socket.
........ yuck. lol.

you know, i have actually no use for a swappable IC socket. that's just something i know i'd never do. i'd buy a pedal to get the sound that that pedal makes, but i'm never going to open it up to install a chip to get a different sound out of it.
i'm kinda done with multi-efx units, and they're less of a hassle then that.
but, to each their own.

Man, I seem to be the black sheep of the five. I haven't had any of the issues that anyone has mentioned; all three Warwicks are active (with the $$ having a REALLY hot signal), and have no problem getting that filter to play nice. As mentioned previously, I did catch some of the limitations that groooooove was mentioning, so I know it has them.
Got the IC chip today, as well as my 18v adaptor for my PP II+, so I plugged everything in and did some comparisons between 9v and 18v, and the old/new chip.
In terms of 9v to 18v, it's night and day. It is a lot more aggressive with 18v power, but it seems to sacrifice a lot of the low, thick filter that is present with 9v power. It does respond faster with 18v, but I can't get past the tone difference. Maybe playing with some internal switches and fiddling with the knobs more will yield something better to my liking, but for right now, I'm sticking with the 9v setup.
No bummer on dropping the $10 for the 18v adaptor cable; I've been meaning to have one around just in case I needed one, so it'll come in handy at some point.
Then I grabbed that new chip and switched it out. I can see what everyone means when they say this one responds better, because it does. However, it's missing that syrupy low end that I'm getting with the original circuit, despite the slower response. And maybe I beat the strings to death, but it's not "that" slow for me when I'm playing. For some of the spots where I'd like to use it in my group, I don't think that'll matter or really affect everything.
However, it did pique my interest in possibly obtaining a Groove Regulator. I did like the sound the new chip had and the difference between the two, but really like the original chip better.
interesting take on the power, i wouldve never guessed you'd like 9v better (i diddnt try 18v yet)
you dont feel like the filter tends to stay open if your actually playing? my basses have very hott signals too, the filter opens just fine, my issue was with the decay / whatever you want to call it.
i also dont have the chip yet, so no new comments from here.
Me neither. I would've thought the extra power would've really opened it up and just accentuated what it already had, but it didn't. Very surprising.
It does stay open, definitely. It sounds weird, but I kind of like it lingering open a little, as opposed to being quick. For some of the tunes I'm going to work it in, it's a little slower which'll compensate for the filter closing. But for some really fast things, I can see it being a setback.
I rigged up a new sensitivity circuit and it's testing well. I'm experimenting with some shorter decay times as well.
