It's really easy to install, just pull out the old chip and insert the new one. It changes the attack and decay characteristics of the filter (it's the chip I use in the Groove Regulator.

Okay, so after another round (specifically keeping groooooove's comments in mind), I can hear what he's talking about in terms of delay time with the filter. With quick passages, it's easy to go faster than the filter, and you can lose a little clarity in that.

There are a couple of settings (usually with the Gain around 25% or so) where I also can see where the guys are coming from in terms of really needing to attack the strings.

I'll have to see where it fits in a band setting, but compared to my other one, it's definitely a more subtle and "polite" type of filter. I like it for that respect, but can see where something is holding it back. I don't know if being able to bump it to 18v will make a difference for me or not. or if the new chip will. Either way, it'll be interesting to compare all the factors.

Okay, now you've really got my attention on this new filter. Will the chips on the production models be swappable? New filter + GR chip = I want? :D Possibly. The GR is the envelope filter sound I've had in my head for SOOOOOoooo long...

I suppose they could be. I'm really designing the mutron clone around the other chip though, so I'm not sure you'd really want to put the Groove Regulator chip in it. But if people really wanted to experiment, I could start socketing my IC's. I made a Groove Regulator for Victor Wooten with a socketed IC and he ended up loving the mutron chip in it, so maybe swappable IC's is the way to go.

I have sort of add when it comes to gear, I've had my ebs bass iq for years and am now thinking I need something a little wetter. If I had a pedal that I could swap chips depenging on my phase at the time it would be amazing. And instead of designing a new filter altogether you could design just a chip for the old one you would dominate the market.

Unfortunately, this is not what I want to hear when describing filters. The LSounded MuIII that belongs to my fellow filter addict OhulahanBass, was anything but polite. As I wrote in another thread, I prefer my filters to sound "in your face." The rest of the band will just have to adjust their settings around me.

regardless of our tastes- he's aiming to recreate a mutron- wich is a very in your face, as wet as can be, filter. it wont seem so subtle with differnt attack/decay though, the filter itself has a lot of resonance, you just cant hear it because you cant get the filter to open/close in a normal way.

Yeah, I would definitely NOT describe it as a polite sounding filter.
The sole problem is that the level of physicality it takes to "open it up" is too much right now.
Changing the input sensitivity should make a world of difference.

You just said it all....that is my taste, MuIII sounds. A clone, well....should sound like the orig.

Hey man, what's up!!! No new filters (yet!), but I'm on the search for "The Perfect Overdrive. I got a Catalinbread SFT a few weeks ago (it's sweet!) and a custom overdrive on order with John Fromel! It's going to his Death is Gain modded for bass with his Shape EQ built in, and it'll have a flippy switch to let me put the EQ before or after the DIG. The art on the case will be a section of the new tattoo I'm working on too!!!! (3/4 tribal sleeve! :eek: lol)

I could hit you up with a couple pics of the tattoo so far (PM me your email if you like), but I figure this is Spencer's thread about a new filter, not a thread about my tattoo, so I won't post them here. lol

Does a new tattoo count as gear? ;) hehehe

You know, thinking about it some more, it doesn't really make sense to offer a Mutron clone with swappable chips to make it sound like the GR AND offer the Groove Regulator. Spencer, I think you should just focus on the Mutron clone! Make it FUNK!

Replaceable chips???

Sounds like the MoMark of filters, I like where this is heading. If your fixing the production circuit maybe add a trim for blend....oh that would be nice. I love slapping with a GR, would also love some blend while slapping with a smaller Mutronized GR! All these great filters coming out has me running out of space.

I don't think the GR needs a blend at all, I always here my tone and bottom come through on the GR. However, I do sometimes wish my Mutron had one, and since this is a Mutron clone....

i recorded them a long time ago. have no way to send them to the TB community.

will gladly email them to anyone willing to put them up on whatever site..

edit- just played with it a bit more.. it really seems to only give you any sort of sound when you set the gain so you have to dig in real hard (and even that is not sounding a lot like a mutron to me, but it sounds better) but if you just turn the gain up.. (with my basses, atleast) the filter will tend to stay open, like i said in my other posts. really strange. wondering what the replacement chip will do.. spencer, have you tried it yet?

The chip fixes the sensitivity problem but makes it sound less like a mutron. You'll be able to try it for yourself soon, I sent them out to everyone yesterday. It's just something to make it more usable until I do a proper fix.
