New 3leaf Pedal???

lol. it was out of the blue. Tigger just got at me and i couldn't pass it up. and SO glad i didna. this thing is very beasty. i like the GR I a lot, but it's a bit... i dunno... subtle for me? it does luscious and pretty VERY nicely, but this gets into tbat wet gritty territory i love.

Matt Dean had suggested a Bay Area Pedal Based GTG. i think we should get on that. sounds lotsa fun.

Thanks man, very cool of you. I'd be down to head out your way sometime and check out that pedal. Not that I'm at the level where I can give it a full workout, but at least I can get a good idea of what to expect from it.

Of course a bay area GTG would be awesome. Would be really nice to meet local guys and pick the brains of the guys who play at a higher level than I do. (Which would be most everyone there I suspect. LOL!)

Spent some time with it tonight (a rehearsal was cancelled due to weather), and made sure to pull out the Y cable and the Pedal Power II+ to see what I could find out with different voltages.

Like the previous incarnation, I found that when you up the voltage, you lose a lot of the syrupy sound that the filter has. When it was at 18v, it was almost as if the pedal wasn't on for a couple of lines I was playing; it just popped in and out for a couple of parts. When I put it back to 9v on the same knob/switch settings, this filter was THERE. And it was there in spades.

However, one thing I noticed is that on really fast stuff, it was easy for me to get ahead of the filter. When you bumped the voltage, that filter really followed you. 16th note lines that in 9v seemed a little muddy on certain settings really jumped out and grabbed you with 18v.

I also noticed that the overall tone of the filter gets more aggressive as the voltage is upped. At 18v on a couple of settings, it had that slightly overdriven filter thing going for it; the same settings at 9v yielded a thicker, more synthy tone.

Overall, for me it's going to depend. While the previous version I was completely sold on keeping the 9v on it at all times, I can definitely see where I might rather have some extra voltage on it. Using the SAG outlets on the PP+, I could drop the voltage at different intervals to see where that sweet spot of keeping that syrupy filter but with the speed and bite would be. I think it's around 12v-15v (give or take), which I think is where I'm going to keep this one.

Interesting...I still haven't tried it on 18v but now I'm really curious.

I've got a question for you guys - Are you happy with the high-end response on the prototypes? I initially thought it sounded too bright, so I rolled off some of the high end. Do you still want more once it reaches the high point in the sweep?

Yeah, it's interesting. But, if I wasn't clear, this version definitely has some more usable sounds in the higher voltages than I thought the other one did. Some may like the 18v.

As for the high end, for me it's fine. But then again, my overall tone is a lot brighter than most people.

I don't have one, but please don't make it sound like a Sci-Fi laser beam -- pew, pew, pew. I hated that about the MXR envelope.

i recall my original having a bit more high end at the top of the sweep. playing alone it sounded brutal, especially with tweeters or that sort of thing, but in the mix it was slurpy and perfect.

i'd be all for giving it more.

I did use the image Spencer posted. Figured I could color the text however I wanted. I had wanted to get the lettering a bit brighter, but it turned out this way.
Leaving the printing label "clear" made it kind of translucent grey and didn't look so good, so I did it again making the background black. I had thought it would be redundant (since the pedal is black) but since the "clear" label isn't quite clear, it came out looking much better with the black ink.
I used Gimp to do it.
Sizing wasn't too much of a pain - 2.5 " wide, height to scale.

sweet! when Kringle-Based-Madness calms down i think i'll give making some graphics a shot. i dig nudity as much as the next person, but purtied up pedals is bettah.

BOOM.

hope all you pedal degenerates are having a Merry X-mas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Kwazy Kwanza or a Solemn Tet.
