New 3leaf Pedal???

Let me put it this way: Fuzz kills playing dynamics, which is what filters react to. So while fuzz into a filter can get a cool sound, the filter won't react the way I want it to.

I Love filters and octavers. I think my hate of fuzz is why I'm making the synth pedal. Octave + square wave + ring modulator into a filter owns when it comes to keyboard bass-like sounds. Maybe it's just because my background is in R&B, soul, etc. where fuzz is not exactly appropriate.

Yup. I dig the sound of fuzz-->filter but the compression of fuzz lessens the impact of playing dynamics on the filter's envelope.

Chunk Systems has a nice solution for this. Their "Envelope" connection between the Brown Dog and 00Funk basically allows the fuzz into filter sounds while allowing your clean dynamics to trigger the pedal. The downside is that you can't use the filter by itself as long as the two are connected this way.

Proton Lenny had a neat solution too. He had Mario at Robot Factory build him a splitter box that sent one signal through all his other effects into the input of his custom filter (a MS-20 based LPF) and the other signal straight into the filters trigger input.

Yeah I'm basically designing it to put out any sound that I'd ever want to run into a filter. I want one box that I can use as an octaver, a ring modulator or a square wave fuzz (or all of them at the same time). The square wave will be synthesized from the octave divider, so it will be fuzzy but much cleaner than a muff-style fuzz.

I can dig it. You're a clever cat Spence and your success is well deserved. Coincidentally Taylor at Iron Ether is building me a one off octaver with the same square wave option and I've got a separate ring mod because I wanted the same sort of options.

Keep on keepin' on. Very interested to see how your overdrive turns out. I'm guessing it will be another winner for you.

Yeah there are a few ways to accomplish this. The effects loop on my GR2 does the same thing. The trigger input method works well (this is what most studio gear has) but then you need a second box to split your signal. The idea with the effects loop is that your clean tone will be going into the input jack, and the fuzz and other stuff goes in the loop. The input jack doubles as the trigger input.

Right. And I believe that's what Jonathan Herrara (sp?) was demonstrating on that Bassplayer Magazine vid - using a drum machine into the effects loop to trigger the GR.

The splitter box can be a hassle but when doing a lot of electronica based stuff (check out my the thread I just started on dubstep sounds) the filter becomes the heart of the synth setup and almost always used in concert with a fully wet octaver and fuzz so that sort of thing is easily worth the trouble.

Anyway, don't mean to derail the conversation. I will say that the GR plus an octaver is super fat and funky. Looking forward to checking out a Proton.

I swear with this synth machine of doom, the Proton, GR, and your overdrive pedal I would be okay running an all 3Leaf Audio board. I don't think I've ever picked out a single builder I would build a whole board out of.

Ohhhh what a sweeeeet PT-Mini this would be. :bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist:

Well, Proton 004 arrived at my house today and after 30 mins of playing around with it I have ended my filter search. :bassist: I had an enigma and Groove Regulator and this blows them away, sound wise and ease of use. I may pick up a GR2 in the future because of the added features over GR1, but i think i will be happy with this for awhile. Also looking forward to the synth!

You're killing me! Mine is on the way now. But I think I won't get it till Friday.

The GR2's effects loop can be set in a way that makes whatever's in the loop available whether or not the filter is active.

I've had my GR2 set up like this (the buffered bypass mode) and was running a Liquid Sunshine (and then my Cream Pie) in the loop. Works really well and it's a BRILLIANT addition.

Jump on over to the 3Leaf club (see my sig). Post pics and I'll get you guys numbers! ;)

5sg.

Well look what I just got...

just ordered mine! :hyper: wish i didn't wait so long. i ended my filter search years ago with my ebs bass iq but i always wanted a mu tron. hopefully this crushes the ebs and i can sell it to pay for the proton. can't wait!
:help:please someone post more sound clips, i wanna hear bootsy!
