Double Bass New Acoustic Image 'DOUBLESHOT'

Just speculating here, but to answer my own question, my guess is that the two-way crossover is there to damp out a high end speaker resonance coming from the 10s. Many full range drivers get pretty peaky above 1khz, and AI's schtick, of course, is a flat frequency response.

Possibly, but to my ears, the Double Shot dosen't sound like any of the of other Acoustic Image speakers. It's got more life in the midrange and high end, and less bloom in the low frequencys.
So, regardless of the engineering, Rick came up with a speaker for DB that's a pretty big upgrade from the Ten2, Contra, and even the Upshot. He's confident enought in this desigh that
the Ten2 isn't being built anymore.

Those all sound like great improvements. At barely more than half the weight of my MAS-26, it's tempting.... Sounds like maybe they changed the mid-range speaker. Can you clarify what you mean by "more life"? Do you mean it's less neutral with a bit of a mid/high bump in the freq. response (makes me think EA), or is it just a matter of more fidelity/definition? I suspect the later.

Elias88,
I’m not an sound engineer so to technically describe the difference for you wouldn’t mean very much, because I’m not well versed in Tech Speak. The Double Shot has better midrange and treble presence. While the Ten2 just sounded flat and boomy out in the house. Take that for what it’s worth to us. There are no mid/high bumps per say it just sounds better. I don’t know if it’s as good as a MAS 2/6.,

I'm getting mine in tomorrow. With the 2-output Martin Keith fretless in my Avatar designed to create a tone both full and transparent, hooked up to a Quilter Interbass to start with. First gig Dec 6, iBeam, Brooklyn, a lovely listening room that tends to get boomy with amplified bass. I am super-curious how this going to work out.

For anyone looking for a mic/pickup double input solution with what looks like a well-summed (and variable) crossover, i just ordered this on sale and we'll see how that is going to work with my Baby Sumo poweramp. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...-weirs-real-deal-acoustic-guitar-preamp-pedal

This is my impressions using the doubleshot in different situations, and a review of the accessories I got for it.

I got the doubleshot to replace my wizzy 10. At first, I liked the mid-forward sound of the Wizzy because it was so easy to hear my intonation, but that quality eventually started grating on me. Then I bought an upshot. I like the sound and the unique soundstage the upshot delivers, but it is limited in volume. Many of my jobs include drummers, and the upshot did not have enough headroom, or punch to handle those properly. That said, the upshot would be my preferred choice with a piano duo.
The doubleshot seems to be the "sweet spot" of good volume and punch with lovely balanced sound. I have found my replacement for the wizzy 10, and anticipate that I will use it on most of my jobs.
The accessories I bought for it were the Gator 1210 tom bag, and the On Stage RS7500 amp stand. The tom bag fits a little tightly, and could be a bit more padded, but overall works fine. The stand works fine too, but I don't think I will use it much. The speaker is designed to sit on the floor and utilize the bass coupling with the floor, and it adds a lot to the efficiency. When I land on a "stage from hell" I will use the amp stand, but my default will be to place it on the floor.
I have used it with upright/full circle, electric bass, and one job with a latin band where I play upright with a magnetic pickup, and the doubleshot did fine with all.

Best, All Three
What amp are you using?

For anyone using DoubleShot/Clarus combo... any thoughts/experience on carrying the wired-up rig around, esp. with one hand?

I often have precious minutes at wedding gigs to get from end of cocktail hr to start of reception. Been using a Ten2 for years, it's been pretty great for cocktail hr and backup stage monitoring (I use IEMs)... all with electric bass.

Course, I'm very interested in the DoubleShot. A concern though is that, even with the smaller dimensions, it could be more difficult to elbow through a crowd (particularly with a bass slung across one's back) since the head isn't fixed to the speaker. Without bungee-ing around the entire cab (maybe the best option), I've been wondering from online pics about other possible ways to hold down the head...

3M Dual Lock. I don't have the DoubleShot (yet), but that's definitely a job for Dual Lock.

The carry handle for the DoubleShot sits under the Clarus when it's on top, so no go carrying it that way, Dual Lock or no. I have a gig just like that coming up. I'm going to put the amp/speaker combo on my Auralex Gramma on a small roller platform and pull it around like a little red wagon.

For several of the questions above, I'd recommend the Chief (formerly Raxxess) AR-5 accessory riser; it hooks into the handle perfectly to create a shelf that you can affix the amp to, to keep it securely onboard. It will work with the Doubler (or full-size Clarus), and would be a way for someone to attach a Clarus SL more securely so that you could move the amp quickly without worrying about dropping pieces along the way. I can state very confidently that they work, as I have them at my shop and have tested them (and used one for an unrelated purpose for over 2 decades), but I'm sure you can find them at other stores online as well.

I do "Bungee-ing", with a thin elastic rope around the cab and the SL, fixed pretty tight. It works well, the amp sits secured, is easy to remove/pull out, it doesn't look too bad and no optional part has to be carried around. (My older Focus doesn't sit on Top as perfect, the Spacing of the Rubber feet is a little to wide/narrow, but surely could be done something about it..)

Been there, and the crowd is usually far from helpful :)
If you have the Clarus gigbag, use the gigbag for the head and hold both the speaker and bag by the handles in one hand and bass in other. you can leave the speakon connected, just have to grab the power cable. This worked for me with the Clarus and UpShot with URB.

If your lucky, your cocktail-hour bandmate will be a big heavy guy (you can follow him through the crowd like a running back)
