New ad banner for non-supporters after 2nd post

I always try to keep TalkBass as ad-free as possible - that's why when you're logged in you've only seen one horizontal banner at the top, and one on the bottom. No popups, popunders, takeovers, expandables, etc.

Recently however new technology makes it possible for advertisers to see if their ad is on the "viewable" part of the screen. As a result, the footer banner on TB has become worth a lot less, and we are falling behind in the marketplace due to lack of visible ads.

Therefore, I have added one banner, which appears "in-content" after the 2nd post in a thread. This ad only appears for non-supporting members and is hidden for Supporting Members (and Gold Supporting Members, who of course see 0 ads at all).

I'm not a supporting member, so I see all the ads. Which is fine, I like them, especially the Reverb ones giving a handful of links to individual listings I've recently looked out.

But just now, the number and size of these adverts have increased. It feels overwhelming, my previously fond thoughts for Reverb are suddenly changing, and overall it makes me want to browse the forum less. (Which would probably be good for me, I know)

Having the same advert, occupying over 50% of the screen, repeated three times, this is just hectoring.

Some of these new ads are causing perpetual loading and higher system resource usage on my computer. If I may, how many ads should I be seeing as a supporting member anyway?

Working on getting supporting members down to 50% ads vs regular members.

But why are supporting members getting more ads at all? If you increase non-supporting members ads by 100% of what was previously then reduce supporting members to 50% of the new amount a supporting member will still experience more ads. You're sort of shooting yourself in the foot. It's really a bigger problem on the phone than a laptop.

If I jump to gold supporting membership from supporting membership will I receive less ads or is that increasing too?

[edit] Either you iust changed something or my Malwarebytes Browser Guard that I just added as an extension to Chrome Browser just put the kabosh on all of the ads, so I'm good... on my laptop anyway. I need to stop browsing on my phone anyway.

that's what i did: the ads were just too cumbersome for my screen setup + brain. lack of continuity with the 'scrolling experience' was killing/confusing me!

that said, i should have upgraded my membership years ago: i spend way too much time on here being thoroughly entertained.

yup, no ads. zero. nada. worth considering. i went the $90 per year route. i thought about the 'lifetime' option, but i didn't want to think that i might leave money on the table.
