Double Bass New amp by Schertler

I noticed Schertler released a new amp, called the LaFaro amp. Here's a Invalid Link Removed. Anyone tried it yet?

I know they make really great stuff and I always look.

But, 280w 1x8" speaker and 42 lbs. Seems out of perportion. It might sound great, but it seems heavy and low power, especially for an 8".

Curious as to what it might cost.

Yeah, it also kinda reminds me of the Pub280. So I don't know how *new* the design of the amp is. I do remember that the Pub280 was a real hype here on TB a couple of years ago. Can it compete with the EA and AI stuff? Dunno. Oh well, as always ... time will tell ;-)

Schertler is always coming up with new products are "State of the Art".
I applaud them for that. Unfortunately, building products that are no compromise sonically usually means that they are expensive. Euphonic Audio and Acoustic Image build amps the're more affordable. Personally, I'm not sure I can tell the difference anyway.

As I kindly mentioned in another DB group on another site, this's bizarre and hope that Helene got some money from the deal. Putting a shot of Scott LaFaro on the back of an amplifier is as about as weird as it gets up in here, kindly.

At first glance I was intrigued by this combo until I saw the specs. With super light weight class D amps dominating the market now I think Schertler might be falling behind the curve a bit. It does have most of the features one would want however.

Just my opinon of course, I had the opportunity to try the Lafaro amp in Rochester NY at the ISB convention. It's a very well built amp, with a stellar set of features. I think that it's a very high end amp. While I only spent a short time playing through it, MHO it that it's designed to work alongside The Schertler DYN B and STAT B pickups, as a proprietary system. It's cost wold preclude most players from owning one. The form factor of the Lafaro is similar to the AER Basscube. For a new amp the Lafaro is pretty heavy for my tastes.
