New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

I'm 53, my hearing is fine. I don't play stupid loud, but I like to have the headroom. I play loud enough to be heard. :)

I started off commenting that when I had a 60's B-15N I couldn't hear it over a loud drummer. That was my experience with it, and yours may be different. So for me, in a rehearsal situation (no PA to mic the amp) it wasn't very useful. For gigs I had a Peavey "The Bass" with 2X15 cab.

But I had that amp a long time and used it all the time, especially for recording. Wish I still had it. :D
aha! truth comes out! you're jealous!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

:D

well the good thing is you can always find a beater b-15 for $600 if you're patient enough. hell, i paid $150 for mine 9 years ago. of course i put $1300 worth of work into it, but if i could have lived with the old bashed in transformer and black tolex, i would expect it would run as good then as it does now.

Mine was the very first nice amp I owned. I think my first amp was some little Alamo amp with like one tube in it. My cousin Tommy who used to play with David Peal and did an album with John Lennon got the Ampeg for me.

I paid about $650 for my Mesa head back in the late 80's. That's a real nice sounding amp, but it's too heavy to lug around. The 4X10 Mesa/Eden can weighs a ton. My back can't do that anymore.

ya, you can't argue with the aging process. it's going to get us all in the end. i think part of the reason i like using these amps so much now is because of it. i realize i have limited svt/b-15 years left and i want to make up for lost time.

That's what I did for my second. Still waiting on retolexing. I keep trying to convince myself I'm ok with the black, but some blue check would look so much nicer.....

....so today I brought up the new Ampeg in discussion this morning over breakfast....and my wife brought up the idea of divorce papers.....

Thankfully she was just kidding....but I wasn't!!!

Hey.....is your wife a friend of my wife!!

I use a combination of the "forgiveness versus permission" strategy and the puppy approach........."Sorry, it just kind of followed me home....isn't it cute!!" :D

As this thread rambles a little as we all wait with eager anticipation!!!!

You've got to admire the brand loyalty and cult following of Ampeg owners.
310 posts and nearly 14,000 views regarding an amp that is still buyable on the used market for potentialy less than a new one, from a company who has had a really bad track record in recent years, and with the hopes that there will be no changes or "improvements" for the new version.

(The Fender tweed and black face guys haven't had this luxury in a long time)

Then again, maybe some of us are just living in the past on this animal.
I had one ages ago and sold it (bought it for $150, sold it for $350) I regret it; it was a wonderful one trick pony; I too would want more power for new. In fact a 100 watt SVT in a Portaflex box would be of interest to some.

And yes, jealous of those that are in a band situation where low power (and guaranteed professional PA support) is the norm.

Luckily for me, I'm single/no kids so I don't have to justify a new purchase to anyone but myself. The problem: the last time a purchase like this came around (something I've wanted for a long time), I ended up coming home with a green/blue burst Modulus Q5. :hmm: lol

I've never had any particular feelings for Ampeg one way or another, but the B-15 is a different story. My current gig IS a lower power situation like you're talking about, so a B-15 would fit very nicely.

I never really paid attention to the used market because I had this perception that a) they were super rare and b) they would be insanely expensive when I *could* find one. It sounds like I was (at least somewhat) mistaken... If the price on these reissues is too high for me, I'll definitely be paying more attention to the used market. :)

Thanks for the G.A.S. guys. LOL

Only a couple more hours til the announcement!!!

5sg.

I gotta say, I love my wife!

I mentioned I either wanted to get a new Hartke LH500 head, or a new cab to use with my Trace Elliott head, and she said "just buy the damn Hartke head and cab!"

She did used to say "how many guitars and basses do you need?" when we first got married, but she got over that.
