Here is the OFFICIAL answer as to why AMPEG designers did not include a 2 ohm option.

Thanks for the link. I watched it. They would've been better off just saying they made a choice instead of what they went with. I'm sure the more technically fluent than I will have fun with this.

Exactly.. especially the comment about the ICE module not being a real 2 ohms.. he might be right but I look forward to the comments from those who are more knowledgeable than I.
 
I haven't read all this thread, but has anyone thought that the success of the the SGT-DI pre amp , prompted the development of venture amp range? Just a thought. Regarding Dino's comments "that classD can't run "true" 2.67 or 2 ohm loads "., I believe Dino is speaking as a Ampeg Sales Rep, NOT a tech.. I have a Aguilar AG700 and it can run 2.67 "No Worries", and there are heaps of higher end Class D amps successfully driving full 2ohm loads

The guy in the video with Dino is a tech though so...

Aguilar heads are not rated at 2 ohms.. they do handle 2.67 ohms.
The moderators were talking specifically about not including a 2 ohm option on this series..
 
Wow... since this video claimed 2 ohm operaton as the "elephant in the room", and they are claiming as a statement of fact that these modules (and the amps of the competition that use them) do not really operate at 2 ohms... this is absolutely incorrect. There are several designers using the same modules that have amps with a long, reliable and successful history of guaranteed and safety certified 2 ohm operation. I'm thinking Mesa Subway D-800, D-800+, WD-800, TT-800, Genzler Magellan 800, Aguilar AG700, TH-700 right off the top of my head. To suggest that other designers are disingenuous with their claims of 2 ohm operation is unfortunate and actually rather insulting, though it probably wasn't intended to be.

To be successful designing around 2 ohm operation, the designers need to really understand the technology behind the power supply and power amp. I can back up my approach with a US patent (shared with Jeff and Scott at Genzler) specifically addressing off sheet (4 and 2 ohm) applications of ICEPower modules. This approach was also approved by ICEPower which insured that all warranty coverage would remain in effect throughout the life of the product.

Understanding the technology (class D and switchmode power supply) includes acknowledging the inherent difficulties and complexity in achieving the necessary performance regardless of the rated load impedance, as well as maintaining high reliability under such conditions. Looking back, there examples by several manufacturers where this has not held true.

I caught the off handed suggestion that the other companies or designer's are being disingenuous about two-ohm operations, with the, kinda but not really remark, and the comments about two-ohm operations sounding booming and woofy.
And I was like...

I just preorder the V7, so that happened lol. Don't mind buying the head sight unseen, or unheard I guess. I'll probably get either the VB-210 or VB-212. Hope the GC near me gets some in stock cause I really need to try them both out to decide, especially at those prices.
Rumor has it that the V700 will not be in stock until May 2024.

2 ohm operation on tube amps (kinda-sorta like what they implied), can be an issue when the cabinets are under-damped (electrical filter model, not the acoustic treatment also called damping but used for other reasons) and at very low frequencies on a tube amp where the output impedance rises. This is not the case on solid state amps with global feedback on the power amp.

Right, I missed the part the first time, where Dino was talking about SVTs bring woofy at 2ohms. I though he was talking class d.

I would stand corrected, except i mentioned the my Agi would drive 2.67 ohms, thank U for repeating? , and Dino mentioned 2.67ohm & 2 ohm..but , hey, thanks for commenting..

I'll be putting it up against my Genzler Magellan 212T. Which is one of the best sounding cabs I've ever owned. bas is super tight down low even with my drop-A tuning.

Based on what an octaver-generated G0 (24.5 Hz) sounds like through my SVT 410HLF, I'd suspect that if your A0 sounds "super tight", you're not hearing much fundamental. IME, stuff below about 50-60 Hz sounds "warm", "fat", "huge", "woolly" and any of the things of that nature, but not "tight". At least not in the way I undestand "tight".
