New Ampeg Venture Series

You may not, but others regularly need and use 2 ohm capability.

Different players have different needs, that’s simply the way it works.
For those players, there are other options - including Mesa, of course. I’m sure Yamaha is going for more of a volume sales play with this series, targeting their own Portaflex installed base and any customers who might otherwise buy an Aguilar Tone Hammer. Neither of which does 2 ohms. Anyone needs 2 ohms, they can choose between a 6 Lb subway or a 137 Lb SVT head. As a consumer, it’s good to have options, though I expect manufacturers would prefer if we had fewer.

Screw that. If a guy can't learn to search, he doesn't belong here.

To be fair, the native search feature on Talkbass is terrible.

I recommend popping out of Talkbass and using Google or even Bing to search Talkbass. “Search terms site:Link Removed will find anything you want or need.

Speaking of belonging here - is this a gated community now?? If so, is there pay for being a gatekeeper?

I have learnt to Google TB, I have tried searching directly on TB, with often 0 results, yet if I google "?" on Talkbass, I usually get a few close responses, often over different years..

Yeah the native search function is not great, at all. It grinds my gears when someone goes to the trouble to snark “you can just search for the answer,” when they could otherwise just not comment. In some cases I’ve seen that be a person’s only contribution to a thread. Like - why?? Makes no sense. Especially when the search function sucks.

And nobody gets to say who belongs here and who doesn’t - except the Mods.

MtManiac , thank U. It's folks like U , who , patiently put up with new "Kooks" , like myself. I have never owned a computer, (Caveman). This place (TB) , is my first, and only "platform?"., which I access through a phone . IV played 6str guitar since 70s, but I sat in with a band who were looking for a bass player, and ended up with the spot. Didn't own a bass , or any bass gear, these guys were playing every couple of weeks, so it was "get it together quick". Talk bass has limited ""wrong gear selection ", and really helped me to get the right equipment to make "the bass sound in my head" a reality.. To me the good side of TB, is vastly superior to the "Dark Side". With many people, U r bound to get a small no of those who prefer to criticise, than help. Over all, IV found majority will kindly go out of their way to explain, share their experiences, ECT. Brilliant!!

It’s a fantastic resource, for sure! Awesome to learn from others’ experiences. It was a huge help to me when I was jumping back into music around 2007 or so in my late 30s and has been since.

Same here, I have no single RF lens even I have 2 R6 mkll in hand.

Shocking me the price tag on new RF100-300.
I think my flagship body are stay on my workhorse 1dxll, I can sure myself can't afford the R1 once launch.
6D, here. The "equivalent" (except for pixel count) would be a R5 for twice the price! Nowadays, lenses are designed to be perfect optically only with the attendant software to correct for all the aberations that used to be corrected through good optical design, itself. I've been using Canon gear since the early '70s.

As to modern Ampeg gear, I tried out a new V series 2-12 cabinet the other day and found it to be extremely mid-present. In the past my limited experience with Ampeg cabinets were quite the opposite.

I really like their SGT circuit m, as I have it in the SGT/DI pedal format. However a few of my passive basses hit it too hard so the only way to use the sGt is with the SGT gain almost all the way down. Then there is no range for the OD and I can’t control it with how hard I dig in on the bass. With my other basses it works great and sounds great.
The SGT DI doesn’t have any input pad and no way to mitigate this.
Anyone tested the new venture series with a hot bass, like my rev Dub King, or the new squier rascal? Would be handy to have a good SGT circuit and power in a lightweight box.
