Well, I'm not seeing any faultering QC when it comes to domestically manufactured bass amplification, that's were I disagreed and had no idea what he was talking about.
In fact, I feel domestic manufacture of amps and cabs has never been better.
I'm not offended at all, and apologize if I came off like I was. We're just having a discussion here.
I just don't see a connection with Gibsons manufacturing missteps and US amplification manufacturers such as Bergantino, Mesa, GK and Aguilar.
These brands have great reputations for reliability and quality and are made here in the US.
Probably a more general observation along the lines of US manufacture not always being a guarantee of superior workmanship or quality control.
And that's the question. Do they still sound like ..well, Ampeg. For my money the only thing Ampeg has is that classic gnarly tone...once they've lost that, the whole thing just becomes another generic bass line.
Those official demo dint shown the Ampeg juice actually.
The new Venture 1x15 cab is rated for 250w!! The Portaflex 115 was 400, so outside of the weight difference I can't call that an improvement. This really limits the head options.
The Venture line seems more like a lower cost PN-line. I don't see these as comparable replacements for the ceramic portaflex line.
I had a senior moment on this one - look at the resistance values vs wattage.....
Agreed! 250 W is ridiculous!
Actually the PF115 cab was 450w (at least per Ampeg site, and my own PF115). Why even make a 1,200 W head when you need two 15" or two 12" cabs to reach 500W??? The only Venture cab I would consider using is the 4x10 cab.......which I'm not. Very disappointed in the cab selections, and it's not like their a bargain either price wise.
It seems weird also that there are not allot of reviews on the Venture amps on You Tube. Seen a couple, but I would like to see allot more in-depth reviews.

As I said earlier in this thread, the V12 should have been two separate power amps both @ 600 watts @ 4 ohms. Would've made it waaaay more flexible.

Excellent point! I find is very strange after looking at the Sweetwater website, GC, etc., that there are no customer reviews! My impression is that there were so many problems with the Portaflex amps that people are waiting for others to review them after their actual experience with them. So far, I see nothing and I actually feel it's going to take some time to see if its worth it to sink the money into it. The new heads I am interested in, but the cabs are so overpriced and I am a 15" bassist and it just make sense for a 250 watt cab. I use two 15's Portaflexs and never had a problem and they sound amazing. So, I will stick with that until further notice!
For who first time own Ampeg stuff , current V3 and decided on V7 , get the PF cab before the whole PF line discontinued for huge money save before second wave on VB cab price tag increase.
I do believe Yamapeg will stop the PF tube head production too.
If you want PF line price tag, Yamaha still give an option - Laney.

So I played a Venture head into a Venture 2x12 today. Totally disappointed.
First of all the SVT setting is cheesy and harsh. So I flipptopped over to the B-15 setting which was meh.
I couldn't play this head into this cab without distortion.
I've played through a number of Ampeg heads/cabs in my life and this was my 2nd most disappointing experience.
It's possible the cab was blown- you should have seen the cranked gain when I turned it on.
Hard pass.
