New Ampeg Venture Series

Where's Dino?

Still not even close to competing with Aguilar or Mesa.
Based on reputation alone (both Ampeg's & Yamaha's), and unless they really mess something up -
I would not be surprised if this becomes a new "standard" in a short time (albeit, one of many these days).

(Great time to be a bass player - at least equipment-wise that is - we've never had so many choices!)

Now all they need is an SVT and V4B in a lighter "lunch box" format to fit the cabs...

V3 Amp $499.99 US MSRP (Carry Bag $69.99 US MSRP)

V7 Amp $749.99 US MSRP (Carry Bag $79.99 US MSRP)

V12 Amp $999.99 US MSRP (Carry Bag $99.99 US MSRP)

VB-112 Cab $749.99 US MSRP (Cover $69.99 Grille Assembly $69.99 US MSRP)

VB-115 Cab $849.99 US MSRP (Cover $79.99 Grille Assembly $79.99 US MSRP)

VB-210 Cab $899.99 US MSRP (Cover $79.99 Grille Assembly $84.99 US MSRP)

VB-212 Cab $1099.99 US MSRP (Cover $89.99 Grille Assembly $99.99 US MSRP)

VB-410 Cab $1249.99 US MSRP (Cover $99.99 Grille Assembly $129.99 US MSRP)

Venture series heads and cabs are available now with the exception of the V7 (available spring 2024).

Typically, it makes sense to release the amp first followed by the preamp.

Ok, I'll get off my soap box and find another cluster of clouds to yell at.

I'm a little confused how they thought this was proper market segmentation. We aren't talking a release period of a year or more, these all of the above will probably be released in the same year. It's like paying top dollar for a sports car with all the trimmings and then finding out they're making a higher end model in the same ball park financially.

As I posted in the Official Ampeg Portaflex Club:

Well, isn't that an interesting answer to why PF350s haven't been in stock for almost a year :rollno:.

Despite promises from Ampeg and dealers that the one I wanted to order in October of last year would be available in February of this year, they never showed up. COVID supply chain delays and a number of other excuses and now, they confirm that, almost a year later, it and others have been retired!

My experience with the new, Yamaha/Ampeg ownership has been a real eye-opener. I hope their "Venture" series does well but, I have moved on to other manufacturers.

It does make me wonder if I should sell my new SGT-DI before its "retired";).
They did you a favor. I've got a PF500, and I never use it because it's just not terribly exciting tonally, in addition to all the issues that line had.

Very mixed on this release. You could call me an Ampeg shill so please take my post with a grain of salt.

This is just plain lazy on Ampeg/Yamaha's part. Although I have and love the SGT DI, I don't see the merit of releasing a class D pairing when the premap is designed to work with most power amps. The incentive should've been the inclusion of additional popular bass and guitar models and the inclusion of tube in the preamp section.

Mind you, the entry level amp goes for $499 and the SGT DI was released this year in the same ballpark. I will admit the addition newer cabs is a nice to see and well overdue but I can't help but feel this release is low effort and low hanging fruit. Typically, it makes sense to release the amp first followed by the preamp.

Disagree. A lot of class D bass amps are simply a proprietary preamp in front of a common power amp, often made by ICEpower.

Aguilar did the same thing when they released their Tone Hammer bass amp a few months after the pedal in 2011. The Tone Hammer amp is the Tone Hammer pedal circuit in front of Class D power amp.

All-in-one preamp/class D power amps serve a market demand for lightweight, compact and quick setup/teardown. I'm working pretty steady these days and have come to appreciate my current 15 minute combined loadin, setup and tune up.

At the end of the night, the one whose head hits the pillow first wins.

I am an Ampeg "tube head" through and through I have 2 SVT's, V4b, Pf50T, so not gonna get me there....but I am happy to see the new lightweight cabs...I really love my SVT 212av and my 112av cabs(not in love with svt210av), But that 410 or 15" look pretty enticing...I also now understand why the backorders were so long on some of the Heritage stuff...they were up to something:)

I wanted a 350 based upon what JimmyM said about how much it sounded like a B15. Even ordered a PF-112. Without any 350s in stock, ordered and returned a 500 for the same reason you did.

After waiting a few months, I got tired of waiting for a 350 and sold the PF-112 and went for a Fender Combo.

Now, I am looking at my PF-20T and SGT-DI and wondering...

PF350s are in stock at AMS.

Why would they put the SGT DI in an amp and leave out the CAB IR feature that makes Darkglass still stand out above everyone else? A missed opportunity in my opinion.

...because you plug it into a speaker cabinet... You want to run an IR into an amplifier that is plugged into a speaker cab?

It's not quite an SGT-DI on the front end. Although it has a number of its features.

A 210 would be my go-to, though not this one at only 300w capacity, especially compared with similar lightweight 210 offerings from Aguilar (400w) and Barfaced (500w).

My Acoustic BN210 I bought new in 2012 for $200 is 600w with two 300w neo drivers; It sounds really good, despite the relatively heavier 42 lb cab+speakers weight.
