New Arkham Class D “Beast”

Well, it's alive and works perfectly. Preamp will take some practice. Seems very subtle compared to others. I'll have it out twice this weekend where I can judge it better than 3 feet away in my livingroom. What I hear, I like so far.
I have an almost overwhelming urge to bring both F112s to one of the gigs this weekend just because I can, but it's doubtful that I could open them up much. One of these cabs kills. Two of them and I could probably bury the rest of the band. Especially with the Beast.

It's sitting on the mirror image F112 that has feet on both top and bottom.

Two gigs down. The amp performed perfectly. The Jones tone stack will take some time to adjust to, but for me it seems to be much more useable than the regular tone controls I'm used to. Most of the amps I've had I've just left the controls centered and adjusted the pre on my bass since I've had active basses. This one though, I'm sure I could run the bass passive and dial in a delicious sound right on the amp.
I loved the sound and power this thing brings and it never even got warm. My MBF800 gets hot by the end of a set.
I am completely GAS free for the first time in a long time. Even TB doesn't cause me to want anything else.
Very happy with the Beast. It just doesn't get any better than this imo. No bells and whistles, just a pure useable, rich sounding preamp with gobs of power behind it for my power hungry cabs.

Excellent! The beast continues to impress me. And you've got the gain/master setting just right imo. I love diming the master and using gain for volume. So effortlessly huge and fast, and clean tube goodness. Occasionally I'll set the gain around noon and use the master for volume if I want more hair.

My only gripe with the range knob is that with the EQ knobs at noon it has no effect. And I rarely need to do much with the EQ for a good sound (which is great!), so the range knob doesn't do much for me unless I am going for a much more voiced signal. But with the bass and treble at 2 o'clock the range knob is a very cool way to shift the global voicing.

That's my understanding of exactly why. And really it's a good problem to have, it means the amp sounds great flat and there's very little need for Eq. I have mentioned to Micah that I would rather have a active mid control there but that would change the circuit quite a bit. And to be honest, it's uniqueness is quite a selling point

My backup rig uses a SVP-CL pre with the active mids (same as SVT circuit) and I really prefer the organic tubey-ness of the Arkham.

So it would follow that if you cut treble and bass, you'd then have a movable mid hump. Just have to turn up the gain.

Any first thoughts on the switches?

The treble switch boost is pretty dramatic, but I do like flipping the treble switch and dropping the treble knob down to 9-10 o'clock. That's a different version of the flat tone that has a little more air to the sound. I prefer the bass knob boosted to the bass switch, and only use the mid switch when the rooms boom or mud requires a little more punch.

Not that you asked me ;-)
