New Arkham Class D “Beast”

Annybody know how the Zephyr combined with the Sumo1000 -Sound vs the BEAST?

It would be a rare person who has experience with both, but they might be out there. Certainly there are people who've played the Zephyr with different poweramps.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Beast has, in addition to the gentle, switchable HPF on the front, a built-in, 24 dB/octave HPF set, I believe, at 30 Hz. The Zephyr does not, though I believe that Micah has said that he can build one in - you'd want to check with him, though.

You might also ask if building a power amp input into the Beast would be something he'd do (maybe before the HPF, to take advantage of that). I certainly can't speak for Micah there, though, and can think of a couple of reasons why the builder of an amp might not want to do that.

Who knows, though?

Man, to be honest it's been a really hard amp to replace. I let mine go for financial reasons, and have a couple other amps in the stable but nothing that has the authority and headroom of the beast. So I've been making do but missing it. Some day before too long i suspect I'll pick up a zephyr and a nice power amp.

I just Realized how great my "old" Blue Rock is, it is not just slamming! it simply has the sound of a GIANT! it is hard to explain not just loud there is something more to it, witch I can only describe as a Big square Giant.
It can in some settings sound to clean clean.
would love to get the Tantra but leaning towards the Beast, due to its more simple design.
I gues it makes more sense wen I allready have the BR, & the Sonic Farm preamp, thoug Blessed he is-

Have read most of, but not all of this thread, forgive me if I missed it.
If you run a different preamp into the rear power amp jack, is the Beast preamp disabled or do you get mixed preamps (assuming inputs to both preamps)?
Thinking A|B|A+B switcher.
If the rear input disables the internal preamp, I don't guess any kind of switch would work to allow 2 preamps.
Unless... maybe hook the switch to the preamp out jack?
Switching between a Grace Alix or Beast preamp would make for a versatile sounding rig.

Power amp in bypasses the preamp section iirc. I don't recall if having something plugged into both the front and the back defaults to one or the other input or if both can work

I'm pretty sure you could take an A|B|A+B switch, run your bass into it then out from the switch to the two preamps.
Take another A|B|A+B switch run the preamp out of the Beast & the output of the second into the switch then out of the switch into the power amp input of the Beast.
Don't see why that wouldn't work.

I wonder if Signal path A would sound as good as plugging into the amp as normal, since you're going into the Beast preamp, out To the switch, in to the power amp in, plus the cabling and switches.

Yeah---there were some issues with the Tantra that the designer wasn't able to resolve. Gain structure issues.So I had to pull my support. You couldn't get full gain from the preamp without clipping the SS section (eq).I'll tell ya'---between the 2di4 and the Abyss---both are as good as it gets.
My rig is essentially the Beast without the HPF. Best integrated amp I've used.

IIRC Mike was a collaborator on the design of the Tantra, and was selling powered versions of the preamp in a pseudo-partnership with Sonic Farm.

So he's not some dude who didnt know how to adjust the preamp, he had intimate knowledge of the amp's functions.

That said, he's banned on TB so wont be able to respond to your comment.

I just reviewed the 2500 W version of the tantra, and it was incredibly great. Can't see what the current status of the normal thousand watt version is.

But for literally a few hundred bucks more, the 2500 W version is basically everything I would possibly want in a bass head and lots more driven by a Jet engine. If that level of complexity in a feature set appeals to you, you can do no better
