There is nothing particularly magical to me about the dimensions of the fEarfull design, and if my rough calculation of 4.3 cubic ft. (give or take) of the Avatar 4x10/2x12 box is correct, the 3015LF ought to work well. Keep it affordable, and let LDS build the custom stuff.

The new 3 way would consist of the top of the line Eminence NEO 15, Eminence sealed back mid, standard compression tweeter, full 12 db mylar crossover at 500Hz and 5KHz, tweeter volume control, dual speakon and dual 1/4 in and outs. This improved cab will be even lighter and more balanced sounding.

Well then, I will take one of those, please. Sounds fantastic. 4 ohms, though.

If you can find that poplar ply that Don @ LDS uses, you'll do even better. It's not much more expensive than BB and around 30% lighter.

For the record if you get your SB112 with a 3012LF upgrade and Alphalite 6CBMR/crossover and crossover you'd sell a million of them, I'm sure.

That cab is just an AMAZING form factor and I think it's probably close to big enough to support a 3012LF.

Maybe not magical, but the dimensions were certainly chosen to help bring the mid driver closer to ear level. The beauty of the fEarful design is that all aspects were thoroughly thought out for optimum performance. So let's not encourage Dave to compromise if not necessary.

I didn't mean to sound like I was knocking Greenboy's cabs, they're very well thought out, but let's not look a gift horse in the mouth, either. (original, huh?). I never expected such a positive reaction to this thread, and if he needs to keep the same footprint to not complicate his current manufacturing process, so be it.

+1 I absolutely agree. And I'd buy one in a heartbeat IF it was as you described. 3015LF, etc.

I'd be interested to see the final version of this cabinet, the price and whether or not Avatar's traditional customer base is willing to make the leap if the desired design goals are met.

I don't need an upscale name on a cabinet if the cab is good. Thus my Carvin LDx1503/3015lf. If Dave makes a good cab, it's a good cab, independent of any name or previous cabinets produced by Avatar.

Avatar offer a great band for the buck; I'm interested in something a little more accurate than their current offerings.

I think Avatar customers are well-aware of what Avatar is and isn't. Speaking as someone who took the leap of faith twice with Avatar and was very happy both times, I'd do it again. ESPECIALLY if they put out a true 3-way cab with great drivers and the proper cab setup.

I think that this is a GREAT conclusion.
I think by taking some suggestions, that he "should" increase his sales.
From the other side of the coin, we may have a real 3 way that allows many of us to "dip our toe" in the waters for nearish $400 and a month wait. No tools, no shopping around for compnents...

Really, I think he would be better served using a cheaper driver. An extedned Xmax Deltalite is just as fine a match for the micro heads most will use. IF he could keep this cab around $400 ish he would have a homerun. 4 ohms and a micro head and you have a compact one cab solution for most things....

Probably so......at least this might help turn some of the masses on to a better design, or at least an alternative to the norm.

Somewhere, in the back of my mind, I kinda thought that Avatar might be the company to take the bull by the horns and promote a 15+6 format.
If he uses a well planned box design, this could attract pros as well as part timers.

A Deltalite might make me lose interest. I don't thinks its half the speaker of the 3015LF.

Yes, 4.3 sounds about right and the 3015LF will work fine in the Avatar cab. I have an Eminence Kappa Pro LFA 15" speaker (xmax 7.2 according to Eminence customer service) I will probably try the 3015LF at some point for two reasons:
a. weight reduction
b. I liked the sound of the Delta lite Neo but it started heating the magnet and compressing the sound before my modest GK700 RBII was set to 1/3 power so I sold it. I understand the 3015 series Neo doesn't suffer this problem, Correct?

The earful cab being a little larger would certainly have better low end I am sure, plus the mid speaker should make it complete.

as far as using fearful diminsions i think dave should stick with a desighn that would stay compatable with his current line up. i think if you keep all your cabs stackable in any configuration its always a plus. getting the right volume for the drivers he ends up using of coarse is extremely important but can still be accomplished and allow customers to build their rig configuration as they prefer without worry if cabs will stack together properly. Kinda like GK found out with some of their cabs. id love to see a 115 with a 3015 or with the lf and crossover to run with my 210
