New bass and a dead spot.......

Forgive my ignorance but they are both road worn so aren't they supposed to look hacked up a little? I am not big on asthetics. If it plays like a dream and don't make you sick I'd keep it......
Hold the phone. Now I realize that there are two shades of sunburst instead of one. I wouldn't accept that if if isn't supposed to be that way.....

Believe me when I tell you that complaining about the "looks" of a Road Worn bass is as laughable to me as it is to everyone else. But I cannot for the life of me see the beauty in a sunburst finish on a two piece body when the two pieces don't match up.

It was one of the questions that I asked but never received an answer to. They would probably keep shipping them to me until I found one I liked but I'm not so sure I want to find out how many it would take to make me happy, lol. I'm kind of freaked out now about Fender not being more particular with the wood choice. Maybe I should just get an American Standard? I just really like the way these basses sound......

Yeah, I think I'll do that. I've been trying to talk myself into another bass altogether but I REALLY like how these basses sound. I guess if I tell them they can just keep shipping them to me until I find one I like, OR they can open one up and check it out before they ship it they might do the latter. Regardless, I am a RW fan for sure now. They are light and sound great! The neck is wider than I'd like but it's still a joy to play.

Did you send it back? I sure would. That is just cheap looking joining the body halves where they did. There have been an increasing amount of complaints about Fender quality lately - maybe you should consider something else all together (?).

It kills me to have to send another one back but that's what I did. I shipped it out today. If the first one played like the second one did or the second one looked like the first one.....well....I'd be a happy camper. But 'twas not to be. I won't take the chance on another one, though. As much as I like them, I'll wait until I find one locally that I can look at and play first.

That being said, I am going to order a 2012 American Standard in something like BLACK. I would imagine they couldn't screw that up. It'll be my first American made bass. And it comes with a hard case which is great!....except that I can't fold it up and shove it in my closet.......:eyebrow:

I would love to have a sunburst but now I'm scared. Candy Cola looks cool but I'm not a big fan of red. I have a white MIM already. Jade and Charcoal might be cool but I have no idea what they look like "in person". Or I could just get an Ibanez :hiding:

You never know what your instrument looks like when you order it,especially when it comes to the grain patterns of the wood. But there's one online company, Sweetwater.com, that posts pictures of every instrument they sell, so you can choose the exact guitar and see what it looks like before you get it. Personally, I prefer a color where you can see the woodgrain, rather than a solid color that hides the wood.

I was leaning Black and Maple. I think you just cemented that idea with the PG choice. My J bass is sunburst. I have a white P bass and an ice blue metallic P bass. I NEED a Black/Maple.....i do i do i do......:hyper:

The RW is etched in my brain now. I WILL get another one at some point but it will be local when I do. The two RWs that I have had my hands on recently were not all that similar. This tells me that there is a measure of uniqueness with each one which is a good thing....unless you're buying it sight unseen. But I would not hesitate to tell someone to pull the trigger on one if they asked my opinion about them. I have now looked at Sweetwater but I'm not familiar with Musiczoo so I'll check them out too.

I noticed that even with American Standards and the '57 Vintage that the grain on some of them is not pleasing to my eye (sunbursts). I never noticed it before but now it bugs me. Regardless, the RW left a good impression with me in the way of weight, tone, feel, and looks. I just had a bit of bad luck. Maybe next time......

The bass is set to be received by them on Friday. After they inspect it I will be waiting another 2 to 4 days for them to approve a refund. I'm sure it will take a few more days for it to actually post. Three more weeks is an awfully long time to wait. I'm A.D.H.D., that's way too long. Hell, I may be trying to become a professional bowler by then and memories of being a bassist will be distant...........:scowl:
