If you owned and SR600 and didn't like it I would strongly suggest staying away from Ibanez unless you can afford their new Grooveline basses or their Prestige models. I haven't personally played the Grooveline but I've played most of the regular Soundgear basses (though not the BTBs) and they all sounded VERY similar. The Prestiges have better electronics and depending on the model different body woods.
If you could find an SR bass from the early 90s (most had alder bodies) those might be worth checking out. I like those a lot more than Ibanez's current line up. You can often find them on the cheaper end of things too. My buddy picked his early 90s SR506 up for $230.

I just bought another Warwick. This one is a 2003 Warwick Streamer. It sure plays nice, very smooth. With the passive pick ups, it have a very nice mellow tone. Just what I was looking for.
The Corvette I have with active p.u. has the sharper, punchier tone. Both have the long thin neck. I also like having the neck clean of all the fret markings, Warwick puts them on the top so you can see them not the person/people watching. So between the two I think I'm covered for a while.
With the new Spector Legends, you'll get the two humbucker sound. It's quite aggressive if you want it to be. Some older Legends had the P/J configuration.
Depending on your budget, you might want to look into a Spector Rebop. My Rebop 4 is almost 8lbs. The neck is not as thin as Ibanez, but it is thinner than a Precision. At the nut, it's a bit wider than a jazz. More info here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
If you can find one used, that would be the way to go. Used is about what a new Legend costs - $550 to $800 or so. I tune my bass down, only a half step though for my band.
