New bassist looking for cab setup advice

for me, and YMMV, punk requires cheap as part of the aesthetic

I prefer 1x12" and 2x12" cabs, me; for jams I use a Bag End 1x12 with a 300w. EV 8ohm, or a Hydrive 1x12" 4ohm, or a GK 2x12" Neo (1st gen. I bought from one of Buddy Guy's bassists) 8ohm; each was less than US$300 (only the Hydrive was bought new, and on closeout)

someone just gave me a 2x12" Epifani that needs repair ...

Lots of people play with a single 2x10 (24% of us according to my poll) so its certainly capable of being adequate if your bandmates are half sensible. But if 100W and a 1*15 isn't cutting it, then a single 2*10, even with 350W into it may be similarly challenged. Also with a nominal 350W into an 8 ohm cabinet then if you push the amp right to its limits (which is probably rather more than 350W if you are running into amplifier distortion territory) you could be risking drivers.

I know I made a thread about single cabs but my gut is now leaning towards 2 2x10s for ease of loading & unloading.

IMHO a pair of quality 210s is a great choice. I think the only downside is a pair of 210s will probably cost a bit more than an equivalent 410.

Someone has surely mentioned this already: Mixing cabs that are different from each other is dicey, partly because their sensitivities may differ. IIRC, at any given input power, a 105db speaker will make ten times the sound pressure and sound twice as loud as a 95db speaker. If you will have one cabinet at some gigs and two cabinets at other gigs, your best bet is for those two cabs to either be identical, or for them to be designed to work together.

Also, IMHO, don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Punk bands are not quiet. In your future, there will be veyr loud drummer. I have a Bergantino 212 that will handle anything indoors but if I were working with a budget I'd go find a used, good condition Hartke or GK 410 and be done with it.

What do you think of this Bergantino 4x10? 800w, 4 ohms. My concern is that its relatively old & I can't find much information on the AE series.

Sorry for the delay. I am not familiar with that cab. I am only familiar with Bergantino gear generally. Jim Bergantino has never made any bass gear that was not of the very highest quality.
