New Bergantino Cabinets!

So long story short... now I first have to put away half a dozen cabinets BEFORE I can break out two more new ones. :help:

I actually own the HD210 but have not had a chance to AB it against an HD410. I have owned the AE210 and AE410. So, I can comment on how it compares to those..but only from memory as I do not own the AEs any longer. I also own the HD112. So, I will comment on that too. Overall, I would say none of it was any big surprise. The HD210 is a killer 210 cab. Probably the best I have EVER heard. It is the best combination of size, weight, tone that I have personally experienced. It is basically the same size of the AE210 but more rounded. Slightly more low end extension and more subdued in the highs. IMO anyway. It is obviously heavier but I still think it is still pretty easy to move around. I can still one hand it and move it. As you would expect. It does not have quite the low end extension of the 12" But still pretty darn good. And it is LOUD! I was playing it by itself today through my GK Fusion 550 and it was LOUD! Did I say LOUD? Normally I have it stacked with the 112 but I took that out today to go to practice. It was nice to run it by itself for a while and see how it sounded.

As usual, another great product by Jim Bergantino. Just when I think he could not outdo himself. He does!

^^ Well, it's apples and oranges at this point. Berg's are ceramic, GB's are neo. So they just sound different (IMHO), and it becomes a personal preference thing.

The guy that came in this weekend didn't care for the sound of the neo's. And while at first he wasn't really digging the weight of the ceramic, I eventually showed him the HD-112 and suggested he consider two of them to create a modular rig. The lightbulb went off, and it was all over.

I was talking with Jim Bergantino this morning, and he pointed out that the [del]12"[/del] 10" HD woofers are actually different from the [del]12"[/del] 10" HS woofers. That was news to me (I'm sure it's only the third or fourth time he's told me that :rollno:). He used some very nice words that made the change sound very attractive. :hyper:

Um... do you mean the 10" drivers? I am not aware of an HS series cab that used 12" drivers. :confused:

Any more results to share? Man, I have played a lot of cabs in my day, and I've been making a lot of cab comparisons of late, and I have to say, for my personal preferences, if we take the IP cabs off the table, that HD212 is very, very close to, if not THE, top of the heap cab for me. :cool:

Yep, the HD-212 was the belle of the ball tonally. The weight was a no-go for this particular customer, though. He gigs a lot and he's feeling his years, so portability/downsizing is a big driver of his rig quest.

So a pair of HD-112's seems be the winner in his eyes from that standpoint. And after hearing Cameron's new rig (an IP-112-ER on top of an HD-112), I can't really argue with him.

The bass we used was my my customer's Ken Smith 6-string something or other, and we ran that through a Genz-Benz Streamliner 900. The guy is kinda old school like me, he wants his amp to be big, phat and warm (but not dull). I think we nailed it with the head, and the Berg cabs just sounded best to his ears.

I have to admit my mind has been cabinet wandering. While I really like my AE210s, I'm finding with my current setup it doesn't quite have the beef I'd like. A pair of HD112s it looking interesting as I assume they'd be smoother than the AE112s were, and thankfully there is a real handle on the HD112. The strap handle on most any cabinet is fail imho.

Is there a significant downside to running on its side? I notice a bit of difference in tone in my studio (haven't done the experiment in a band mix). I prefer the more vertical arrangement both for taking up less stage space and getting the speaker up higher. One reason I put the extra feet on my original design AE210s.

I'll gig the HD112 tonight in the same room I've played the AE210 many times. I go back and forth on which I prefer. I'm hesitant to read too much into tone specifics until the HD112 breaks in a bit. I do find the AE210 easier to carry due to the shallower depth of the cab.

I went to buy an HD210 today to use as a stand alone cab as well as pair with my HD410. I came home with an HD112. Good lord this cab sounds incredible! I absolutely love my HD410 but IMHO the HD112 may be the best of the bunch. I think there may be another HD112 on the horizon.

The HD112 really is incredible. I've said this before, but if I was in the market today, it'd be my first and only choice. The whole break-in thing is interesting to me, and I certainly don't question the expertise of the cat with his name on the grill, but I will say that both of my HT112ER's went from box-to-gig, and totally had me at hello.

Two of the ceramic 112's together is a force to be acknowledged. I find that I love the sound - and output - more than any of my favorite 410 cabs. Just amazing.

I keep reading about these Berg cabs, and I can't help but wonder if my OCD is doing me a huge disservice. I can't force myself to use a head from one manufacturer and a cab from another. Yeah, dumb, I know......

Oh well, my Eden stuff sounds great. I am just really intrigued by everything you guys are saying about these new Bergs........

I keep telling Jim he needs to bring back the IP series (or at least the amp part of it). We'll see if that ever happens...

Cameron's IP112ER cab is beyond ridiculously good sounding. It sounds like a pair of 410 cabs in terms of girthy, clean low end... all from a single 12!
