New Boss multi effects for bass

I know TB isn’t a hive mind (or is it?), and I haven’t watched the video, but…

Boss, who’s made countless classic effects since the 70s, releases a multi effect for bass, and we’re already hating on it without ever having seen one.

A relatively new company who’s only made distortions releases a multi effect that sells for over a grand and half of us here preorders it.

I guess TB and the music world isn’t unique in that sense, but, man, we all need to take a step back from influencers and FOMO and dubious selling strategies (limited releases with random drops), and start judging products for ourselves…
Or maybe you’re just projecting, as long as we’re just throwing around unfounded pop psychology assumptions about complete strangers.

Does the GX-10 offer pitch shifting? I'd assume the effects and bass stuff in that unit are the same in this one. I'd assume...

Anyone seen or have a list of available effects?

Edit -found it! Does include Pitch Shift ans well as the Defretter effect. Probably order one later today!
Ordered. Eric @ Sweetwater says should ship late January to early February. DOES NOT come with the AC power adapter (but will work on 4 AA batteries), has to be added separately. But shipping is free so... Requires a 9 volt 0.5 amp (500 mA) Ac adapter. Fortunately I have a pile of AC adapters gained over the years from who knows where, Quick dig into the pile I found two that will work. Price with tax and free shipping came to $248.39 FWIW. As with the GX-10 I'm sure the price will go up after the initial intro period so I figured what the hell...

I didn’t look at the price where you are. I said over a grand, not a grand and a half. My apologies. It is over a grand in America.

Darkglass was founded in 2009. Relatively means in relation or comparison. It is relatively new compared to Boss and a lot of other music brands for that matter.

I’m not all that familiar with Darkglass’s products, and you’re right - it was an exaggeration. But come one. It’s not like they’ve made phasers and filters and delays and choruses and flangers and whatnot.

Sorry I hurt your feelings.
It breaks down like this:

Boss effects do not sound good.

Darkglass effects do sound good.

Why not buy from a company known to make things that sound good?

As someone that has spent a gran and half buying a multifx unit made by a new company who's only made distortion pedals, I have to tell that it killed my will to invest in any other multifx unit because it's simply the best the market is offering for bass nowadays, IMHO.
And when I said above that Boss has lost the train on this market segment is because what this new unit offers is nothing fresh nor new (opposite to the so called hyper expensive multifx unit made by a distortion new company...).
I may be wrong and the market may show a great response to this new product but honestly it simply is not a really inovative product and neither seems able to reach a specific segment of the market that isn't already taken by other products.
If they had released a new Katana amp lines with a real integrated multifx unit that's expandable and upgradable maybe it would have better results but that's simply my opinion as a nobody that's probably just saying a lot of bs.

I'm certainly not the biggest effects/pedal guy out there, but even I like a little chorus, reverb, and compressor once in a while (the meds aren't helping . . .), but when I do get the itch, I use this . . . .

. . . . because I can look down and SEE where most everything is set without scrolling through screens or my phone. One line in, one line out, I save a fortune on all those little jumper cables !

Hope to get one of these soon . . .

This new GX-1B may sound fabulous, I just prefer this sort of visual interface where I can see most everything at a glance. I've used BOSS and Roland gear since the 70's. If I'd have only saved that useless black SLOW GEAR from those days, I could sell it and buy two of these.

That’s kinda subjective.

I’m not a fan of DG’s drive offerings personally but I get the attraction. Boss have some very solid effects, not always the most exciting but the GT1000core was great albeit with a very underwhelming app/editor software.

For the price, it’s a pretty compelling purchase, you know it’s gonna be built like a tank. For people less interested in diving into NAM or just want a reliable product at a budget price it’s perfect.

The GX10 has a pitch shifter for both Guitar and Bass voicings. This new unit actually has more bass related effects than the GX10. I’m hoping that Boss will come up with a new firmware for the GX10 which will also add these effects. Most notably the Sansamp Bass Driver.

I used to have the ME-50B and wish I never sold it. I now have the ME-90 B and I really like it for what it is. My band runs a mostly silent stage and this is my main everything pedal. I run the XLR out to the board and call it a day. I'm still experimenting with the amp models but lately have found I really just like the sound of my bass and use the EQ setting just for a little gain adjustment when needed. I don't use a lot of effects so it suits me. This new Boss GX-1B seems nice, but why didn't Boss put an XLR out? I don't know if the outputs are balanced.

Yes, all opinions, no matter how well-reasoned, are subjective.

I've no problem with BOSS stuff. Though I agree that they didn't really move the needle too much with this new unit, that's not to say it is somehow unworthy as a bass-specific multi-fx option. +/-$250 USD I'm guessing? Lots of competition in that price range these days, and that might be the biggest problem BOSS will have. But there are plenty of people who love BOSS and its solid reputation speaks for itself. IMHO, the bluetooth control option itself is a great move, if nothing else.
Yes, it's running in that sub-$300 range to compete with the Mooer, Zoom, and other budget-range modelers. Boss has their fans and could be a nice place to dip one's toe into multi-effects modelers.

With respect, have you considered that there is a significant segment of the market that isn't looking for "fresh and new" or particularly "innovative" but rather are looking for something proven to work and last that sounds good (or good enough if you prefer), that doesn't require an engineers degree to operate, is reliable and easy to use, and doesn't cost a gran(d) and half?

Yeah it's not probably what you'd use for serious recording but for live performance especially for most of us operating at the cover band/event band/corporate band/tribute band/whatever level, something like this unit, higher level Boss mfx units, the Line 6 stuff etc etc, this and similar units are the answer to doing things as simply, effectively, and (relatively) inexpensively as is reasonable. I'm not as concerned about innovative as I am about products that do what I need them to do as simply and reliably as possible at a reasonably attainable price range while meeting a quality of sound/tone reproduction that only knowledgeable cork sniffers would be bothered by if they can discern a notable difference. The small percentage of notable difference especially when being used primarily for live performance versus the cost of the State-of-the-Art stuff is IMO simply past the Point of Diminishing Returns for the majority of us. As always YMMV.

As has been discussed on this forum ad nauseum, most live audiences (and a large majority of us less-than-full-time-professionals as well) can't tell a discernable enough difference to be worth the cost difference and basically just don't care. That IMO is the segment products like this are trying to reach. I can replace a bass amp/cab/pedal board with something that has WAY more options tonally and is much easier to haul around/set up/ blah blah blah for $250? Meets my needs so I ordered one. Guilty as charged.
