New Bridge Decision

I think you'll spend a lot of $$ and see little result (I too have walked this path) - the wood of the body & neck is what really makes a difference; That said, ultralight tuners are good because they change the CG of the bass a bit - making it more comfortable (less neck dive). Funny, back in the '70s, a heavy bass was considered *good*. We were high. And yes, we were.
LOL.....the bass sounds great and your absolutely right about the neck and body (basically the wood) being the factor in tone. I just want my great sounding frankenjazz to be as light as my MIA 08' fender jazz. The fender feels about a pound lighter. I know the fender has light weight tuners but the bridge is brass and steel I believe. It may be a waste but I would just use some B-day money and if it didn't work out hold on to it for another build. Still haven't decided. Your right about "it used to be heavy basses were better".

Pic of the bass. It's the one on the right (geddy MIJ body, SX pro neck). Believe it or not the SX neck improved the sound. The geddy neck was too thin and needed to be adjusted too much. It also had a weak E string, not anymore :)
