New Build: Noah SSC

Based on Scotty's earlier remarks, here's a revision to the headstock that -may- follow the single-cut motif better. Scotty?

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with this one . . . I like it and I would incorporate it into the global picture for my work, however, it is actually a little more "Ritter-esque" (look at Ritter's Jupiter or Okron) than what I had.

Whatever I settle on, the primary prerequisite is that it be "Led"; it must retain much of the same mood as the original design.

Hawt;)

seriously though, this headstock design really flows with the single cut motif, it accentuates the lines of the upper/ lower horns, without being obtrusive or gaudy.

The new one looks nice. It brings the flow back inward, like the SC horn does. Maybe a more valid test is to see just the new outline, without the old one still there affecting the way you see things.

Also, I wonder how it would look with a bit of carve, so that the old outline would be retained as the shape of the face veneer, with the new outline being the full headstock, so there's a reveal of the core wood.

Just a thought. In the end like you said, you're the one who has to like it!

If you keep the "cresting wave" of the new outline, you could echo that in the ends of the f-holes.

. . .

Could you explain the "carve" remarks a bit more? I'm not quite hooking up . . .

As for the cresting wave "echo" in the F-holes, . . . that is spot on. If I go with this, that is what I will do.

i like the headstock. you seem to know just where you stand on your methods and design and other build philosophy. i like that, and so far, all i have seen is first class work. i think i am the opposite. i prefer constructive critism over compliments, because i want to know how i can improve in every way, and i am not obligated to change a plan based on others input, so its all good.
so, when do you think we will see the woodwork part of the build started? is this for a customer, or will it be one of your personal/prototype builds?

This is a prototype that, should it come together, I'll sell. the whole intent is to come up with an alternative to the Noah, and incorporate it into the big picture. This one may actually end up being a little too far outside the box to put permanently alongside the original Noah, but we'll see! The basic design motif will stay, but I might come back toward the middle on the electronics that are planned.

The only bass I won't sell is #1, after that they are all candidates for going out.

Woodwork? Maybe by the weekend. I have hardware and parts coming for the Standard and that is a priority once the parts arrive.

And then I made a promise to a friend (see above in this thread), and I'll start doing something with that too . . .

Could you explain the "carve" remarks a bit more?
Well, it could be done by "carving" or perhaps by other methods, but the end result after whatever process is: the face veneer is the shape of the old, "two finger" outline; the core wood behind the veneer is the new, larger "wave plus one finger" outline; and so the core wood is exposed in the new, recently added area at the end of the headstock. So both outlines are present at the same time, one as the face veneer and the other as the headstock outer envelope.

I liked this idea, so I gave it a really rough rendering. Like this?
