Been there done that myself, on top of a 12' step ladder, a week after I had a 16' extension ladder slide out from under me.

I got off the 12' ladder and took my "helper" home, and suggested he STAY there. For his own safety.

The only thing that kept that "helper" alive was the fact that I have no interest in spending time in prison, and even justifiable homicide (which I will argue that would have been...) would probably have garnered me a few years in the big house...but believe me, murder was on my mind for a bit that day...and the kid thought it was genuinely funny, and didn't get why I was P!$$ED off at him, or why he was terminated with extreme prejudice.

Coincidentally enough, same thing, guy couldn't figure out why I was pissed, I tore strips off him, and got moaned at by the bosses for it.

This is like the opposite of Darwinism, hahahah.

Yeah, I was fortunate, the owner of the company I was working for didn't LIKE what I did, but he also backed me up 1000% on what my reaction was.

As for the Darwinistic aspects of stupid people, well...let's say that once a species starts protecting the defective population, evolution stops...and may even go backward.

Quick update:

1) Spray fire retardant paint onto foam insulation in showroom ceiling: Check!
2) Complete wall framing: Check!
3) Dig trench outside to bury the low voltage cable that feeds two LED lights that will illuminate our killer Rocket Music sign at night: Check!

We're really down to the nitty gritty at this point. Our electrician has a little work left to do, mainly hanging the showroom lights & wiring up the exterior sign lights. That should be just 2-3 days of work, so hopefully we're ready for an inspection next week.

We did find out today that our building permit expired in February. :rollno: Jiminy-Cricket. What a racket! Now I probably get to give the town a few more hundred bucks to get back to being legit. Oh, well - damn the torpedoes, it's full speed ahead to get done in time for the clinic. We've got 4-5 weeks to get the drywall up and painted plus lay some hardwood floor. Seems reasonable, assuming all of the contractors for that work have some spare time to give us...

Drywall and paint should go fairly quickly depending on the crew. A wood flor in a big open space without a lot of special cuts should go quickly. Even if it isn't quite done, we understand.

Now go pay the city for that updated building permit:-)

Yeah, I expect the drywall to take 2-3 days max, same for the painting. My main concern is getting everyone lined up and in here in a reasonable timeframe. Of course, that IS one benefit of a down housing market. There are lots of contractors anxious to work! Sucks for them no doubt, but it's really meant that we are smoking right through this project.

I see you can still type, so my message to you via Dan got through, y'know the one about not putting the nail gun ON your hand while using it....

...and if you have any of those "not so busy now" subcontractors floating around Blacksburg, can you PLEASE send some to Greensboro to get my freakin' house done by June 16th? :spit:

Our electrician was unavailable for a couple days, so we asked him what we could be doing to move things along in his abscence. He suggested we get the track lighting for the showroom prepped for installation, so that's what we did!

Here's the starting point. Individual sections of black 8' track arrived in cardboard tubes, and then we grabbed some metal U channel onto which we'll mount the track. All of that will eventually (i.e. later today, maybe tomorrow?) get suspended from the ceiling using some sort of chain & bolt approach.

Step 1 was cutting the U-Channel to length and then painting it black. That'll help it disappear up against the black ceiling. I did the cutting, Danny did the painting (I hate painting!!).

Then we had to mount the track to the U-channel using some self-tapping screws. I like screwing. :rollno::D:D:D

Here it all is ready to be installed! If you can't tell from the photo, each piece there has the black track on top and the painted U-channel on the bottom. It's really rigid now, that'll help it hang straight and not twist on the chain.

We've got our electrician here today. He's currently working on the building's ground rods & the outdoor lighting, but we might get around to hanging this stuff later this afternoon...
