New Carvin B1000

Probably because the b2000 puts out 1300w at 4 ohms. 600w isn't anything extraordinary these days. There are alot of other amps in that wattage range I'd rather have... IMO. I'd much rather have a b2000. That said, it does fill a niche that Carvin has not yet filled with their other amps so that is a positive I guess.

Yes....that, and I already have a BX500, which would be basically the same amp, unless I would be running the new one at 2 ohms, which I woudn't. I was wanting something in 900w @ 4 ohms range to hit my LDS "Dually" 215 which has two Eminence 3015's. :hmm:

I'll be interested in seeing where it ends up being price-wise. For me, 600W@4 is more than enough as I'll probably drive a 4ohm cab or 2 with it. Right now I'm using a 250W combo and it's plenty. I'm just looking to power a to-be-purchased multi-driver rig. The only thing keeping me from their existing BX500/250 is a.) they don't fit in my gig bag and b.) the BX500's DI is/was 'pre' only, so no eq or drive (maybe that's changed?). If the B1000 doesn't have a pre/post, then it's a no-go for me.

I also have an LDS 215 that I drive with the Carvin BX1500 bridged. I was hoping this new amp would be 1000 watts at 4 ohms, so, probably not on my radar. I really think the BX1500 is the best bang for the buck, most versatile bass head out there these days, although not super light at 10 lbs, and definitely needs to be racked. Not a bad compromise really with all the options you get with it.

Are there micro amps already out there that do 900W @ 4 ohms?

There a couple of GK heads that do 800 watts @ 4ohms, although I would not call them " micro " amps.

The gk mb800 is 800w at 4 ohms, 5LBS and I believe can be had for about $600 new. Its rated very well by bass gear magazine... and IMO sounds fantastic. Hard to beat IME. Wish I didnt sell mine.

Markbass makes the sd800 or Little Mark 800.
Genz has the SL900 or Shuttle 9.2, both of which are 900w.

Lots of micros out there approaching 1000w and less than 10LBS.

Approaching 1000w@4 ohms.

2 ohms is less exciting IMO. If I have to use that many speakers I don't need as many watts....

Looks like it's 375w @ 8 ohms, 600w @ 4 ohms and 900w @ 2 ohms.

The B2000 is 700w @ 8 ohms for 700 bucks.

That's too bad it's not 1K @ 4ohm. IMO it would make more sense (at least for me) if Carvin didn't worry so much about 2 ohm ratings. Maybe some people run at 2 but I think the major majority do not. I know the BX500 has a switch to change from 4 to 2. I like the way an Orange can change from 4 to 8 so you're getting full power from either setting. Maybe that's too costly for Carvin to try. I still may pick one up down the road as it looks a little smaller than the BX500 from the vid. One of the things I'm looking for in a micro is the ability to fit in my gig bag pocket. This way I can make one trip for smaller gigs/practices. So far only the GK's fit that bill. I have a big gig head in a rack case when I need it.

Right....the GK MB800 is the way Im headed I believe...cant get much lighter and louder than this. I had a SVT 7Pro running it, and it was nice, but not as much volume as I'd thought it would be. In a pinch, I fired up my old Peavey TMAX through the LDS 215 one night...it sounded amazing....even with its 350W...it rocked the hell out of that LDS...I was confused..LOL. The guys in the band all said "There ya go! now your tone is back!" Go figure ;)...good news is that I picked up a Peavey Maxx preamp after I sold the Ampeg, and now I just need a light power amp or amp....:bassist:

I have been considering the 1500 as well! I dig the tone from my BX500 so it might be THE fix!

You could use the mb800 as a power amp with your peavey pre and have a backup. Something tells me you may just prefer the gk. Plus its only 5 fricken pounds!

So maybe it's not an issue of watts at all...:D With that pre there are lots of great power amps out there. Carvin even makes one that will get you your 1000W at 4ohms for just over $300...

I had a similar thing with my SVT7 Pro. Not as loud as I thought it would/should be.

GK's are kinda off the table for me as the 'GK Tone' is not the tone I'm after. I have a couple of basses that I could just never get right through an MB series head I once had. :( Nothing wrong with the head, just not what I was after. We'll see what this B1000 is all about when it comes out....

Being 2 ohms stable suits their own BRX line of cabs, which are all 4 ohm cabs. It also solves the problem for people who own a good 4 ohm cab and want to add another. With 450w going into each of them, loud as you'll ever need.

The BX500 is a bit more complex for knob turners but some people like it simple. This is simple yet without the crushing power of the B2000, which MOST people don't need. Still if you want simple and alot of power, the B2000 costs only 700 bucks.

+1
I totally get the need for a 2 ohm stable micro/light head, and think Carvin has found a great corner on the market with their amps.

I had the BX500 also, and when the BX1500 came out, it was a no brainer. You can always use one side of the BX1500 and get 475 watts, but, to tell you the truth, when you bridge that amp into 4 ohms, something great happens to the tone overall, like a huge dose of authority happens ! Of course, you gotta be careful with that kind of wattage, but, that's what the Master is for ! :D
